Hello all

I want to know will there be any problems running 24 watt T5 (x2) in my 39 watt starter unit?

Let me set the scene...

I have a 180 litre tank planted only with Crypts sp.

Formally had pressurised CO2, two 39 watt T5 and JBL 1500, I have since slowly lost the CO2, reduced dosing to minimal amounts and just recently due to persistent staghorn since the move to low tech, only a single 39watt T5. But I am not getting good coverage, hence the desire to switch to two 24 watt bulbs.

Cheers
Paul

some ballasts are rated as 2x24w/2x39w, check with the manufacturer or check the box to see what yours is. If not your likely to blow the bulb or significantly shorten is life, assuming it works at all.

Alternativly you could try using both 39w but reducing the day length. Some people use the seista method were the lights are timed to go of for a period in the afternoon and then come back on in the evening.
