vacuuming a substrate

Hi

I have small problem with algae Staghorn and want to vacuum a substrate from any mulm but have no idea how as it is very light

any ideas??

I was considering buying one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fish-Tank-Aquariu ... 53e06d7d6e so I could clean small patches of the substrate / gravel where required rather than doing a large area, could be use full for going around / in and out of the plants.
