Hi all,
I join a picture a friend sent me. Any idea what those white "things" on glasses are ? They don't move, 1-2mm long, low-tech aquarium.

I have no idea what these are but I have a major outbreak of something almost identical in my smallest outdoor pond at the moment. That shape almost like a grain of rice is quite distinctive. There was a deep freeze here and there was several inches of ice across the surface and following the thaw these things absolutely exploded in numbers. I thought they were grass seeds or something at first but the ones I've been observing actually do seem to move and are even capable of swimming through the water just very slowly. The newt larvae in there have been absolutely gorging themselves on them.
If you disturb them from the glass do they move at all or just sink to the bottom?
