You'll probably find there more copper in your trace mix than you'll get from your hot water system
P.S I keep discus and have never had a problem in 2 years

Hi French 47
Just had a read through your other post on tank size and plants
I have 2 Arcadia I bars but only use 1 with the same type of plants
Mostly crypts ferns and anubis
I was up until 6 month ago running both I bars with high amounts of ferts and co2 injection but when my co2 ran out and...
Hi Geoff and welcome to the forum
Unfortunately there are no specialist shops in Essex
The closest you'll find is the aquatic design centre in London but that is not really a specialist planted shop
The green machine and aquajardine are the only real specialist shops
If you give TGM a ring they...
low maintenance is different to low tech
I run a 500ltr low maintenance tank low lighting 2 54 watt t5s 8 hour photo period
I inject co2
I have easy low light plants ( crypts, moss , ferns ,anubias ect)
20% water change fortnightly
Bba is primarily caused by fluctuating co2 levels
Stabilise...
I've got one of these over my p@h cube
Grows hc easily
Nice light just need to swap out blue bulb for something else got a nice warm colour from p@h

Blue green algae or bga is caused by low nitrate
I think that the ferts you are dosing are only micro you need to add npk either via ei method you can read up on this in the ferts section or with an all in one mix

hi hoggie
I know that some members have had good results from ph controled co2 but was always led to believe ( Clive ) that ph is fairly irrelevant whereas keeping a steady and even supply of co2 is the main objective.
PH can be altered by many factors in a tank ( fish waste, wood, soils etc ) so...
Stupid is as stupid does(painted black)
As you can see in mine having some taller plants to break up the back helps alot
I highly recommend some crypt balansae for this or any stems and of course Vallis

Stupid is as stupid does(painted black)
Back of my 5footer is black and I think it brings out the colour of the fish and plants more and gives greater feeling of depth

have a look on lamp specs
At their prices you could buy 2-3 tubes and see what best suits or look on James planted tank site he does a good comparison with pics that might be helpful

Why not try a couple of ottos? They make light work of diatoms
Mind you if only a few days old I wouldn't add any live stock just let the diatoms run there course and keep up with twice weekly water changes and keep lighting down to 5-6 hours

The Transparent Tank Challenge - getting near the end
Sorry mike if you have mentioned earlier but where are your lily pipes from?
Looking at some for my nano and they look low profile
Many thanks
Matt
Have you already got the am1000?
If you have you will see the hosetails get fatter half way down
If you haven't got it yet and are just looking on the website don't panic am updated the hosetails about 2 years ago bot not the website

As you state the problem started when you upped the lighting 26watt over 30 l is too much unless you are pumping in serious amounts of gas and ferts
Drop the lighting by half and wait until you get your gas sorted or use easy carbo / excel but I would still lower the lighting
The diatoms would...
I would say rizo and diatoms too
Cut lighting to 6 hours and drop siesta , it's a myth that a siesta helps stop algae
Get some otos in and they'll clear the diatoms
As for the rizo you say you have 10x flow but how is it configured ?
And yes get you co2 on 2 hours before lights it can go off...
Have a look in the algae section
Scary ....... Clive doesn't look a day older !!!!
Must be the digital projection of his physical self( roll on the matrix) LOL
Matt
120 x 55 x 55 Iwawoody.
Have to agree about the wood! Maybe if it were buried just with some of the branches emerging?

Looks fantastic love the shrimp too
Quick question where did you get the light from am looking for a fixture for a 45 cm and yours looks perfect
Cheers

deepends on tank size I use these on my 27ltr and they last about 3 months I know in the long run a 5kg fe would last alot longer but because of where the tank is I can't hide one so the welding cans work well

If all the corys were in one bag for that time and the water as you say was milky then it could be that they were poisoned by there own waste?
When acclimatising them were you just adding water ? Or removing some and adding some? This is how I acclimatise and normally only take about half an...
20 corys in one hit
Possible ammonia spike?
I've got a 500 ltr and I would only add maybe 5 at a time dependant on fish type
Matt

A slightly better pic
It did come with a light but had the tank ages think I was the first to post about it
But changed the light for the little boyu luminaire
Matt

Personaly I would think lowering the temp with discus will upset them more than tweaking your gas a day at a time
I run a 500ltr with discus and use an up atomiser as well my gas comes on 2 hours before lights my dc is lime at lights on and temp is 84 so I chuck gas in but I increased over a...
Just read through your first post and noticed your not planted yet so don't worry about ferts
I would recomend some fast growing stems to start off with as they soak up ammonia and any type of crypt as these are my favourites but plant choice is up to you
Matt

If its white cloudy then yes it's a bacterial bloom and completely normal on a new setup
I would start with 50% water change daily for the first week then week 2 50% every other day week 3 50% every third then week 4 50% twice a week continue with twice weekly changes for a couple of weeks...
Pipet or syringe work well
Just turn off your filter/power head
Load pipet/ syringe with your daily dose
Gently squirt infected areas
Leave 5-10 mins
Turn filter/power heads back on
Job done
Matt
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 1600 has a cone shaped flow like all the koralia range not a jet like a normal power head so in a 125ltr it should be fine
Matt

As Clive would say ( ceg4048) if the bulbs you have are still working why replace them
Manufacturers tell us that tubes need to be replaced yearly but all this does is line their pockets tubes only really need replacing when they fail
If you wish to try different combos then that's fine and I...
Hi Alastair
Have you thought about making 2 spraybars with rigid pipe and running them across the full length of the back of the tank then you wouldn't need the power head and you would have no dead spots?
Matt
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also up the weekly water change to 50%
and I agree with andy h drop the 1 hour break and reduce period to 6-7 hours and reduce to 1 tube until you get on top of it
If the stag horn is isolated to 1 area you could spot dose with ec as well just turn of filter syringe your daily dose on infected...
4ml easy carb and 1ml ferts seems low to me
Staghorn is co2 flow related so upping the easy carb will help I dose 4 ml daily on a 30 ltr with no I'll effects
Also what ferts ? Any npk?
Is the spray bar mounted on the side of the tank ? If so try extending it and have it all the way across the...
This would be fine
I would schedule
Sunday 50% water change then dose macro
Monday micro
Tuesday macro
Wednesday micro
Thursday macro
Friday micro
Saturday rest
Hope this helps
Matt
Light is good had to swap out the blue bulb for a different one got one a p@h
But pleased with the light
Will get a full tank shot later

At that depth and wanting low maintenance I would go for crypts
All species do well with low lighting and balansae cen get upto 2 fr ling leaves so great as a background

Algae blooms are caused by too much light and ammonia spike
Test kits won't pick up the small amount of ammonia needed to cause algae
The lights you have are of unknown power so try reducing down to 2 bars and a 6 hr photo period
Are you only running the 305? if so then you are nowhere near the...
The flake from Plymouth is great stuff my discus went mad for the garlic stuff
I never feed frozen as you have no idea how many times it's defrosted and then re-frozen and what might be lurking in it bacteria wise
If they don't take flake to start be persistent they soon come around mine also...
Moving the spraybars to the back wall is an excellent start ?the next thing would be to get rid if the jbl reactor and get yourself a up inline diffuser this goes on the outlet pipe of the most powerful filter (eheim) and will give much better diffusion around the tank
My tank is of similar...
Welcome to ukaps
The fluval mini is a pressurised system but I think the reactor is pants and the 20g bottle won't last that long
You might be able to get larger bottles for this like the ones used on paintball guns
The reg is ok but no solenoid so has to be used 24/7
Best get a nano ceramic...
Hi GM
Yeah they feel quite at home in cold water I've got them in a goldfish tank in the coldest room in the house
Matt

Just looks like damage rather than rot
My discus get this occasionally if they get a bit of a fright and dash around the tank they can knock themselves
I wouldn't worry about it it will soon heal

Light-->CO2--->Nutrients = Plant Growth
I think that as long as the plants are healthy and fish/inverts are not showing signs of too much gas and you have no co2 related algae then why worry?
As you say your DC is lime at lights on then co2 levels are fine
Light drives the speed of growth
I...
Fantastic filter
Easy to use, easy to clean and fairly quiet
Only downside is the 1inch pipe but spay bars can be made

All questions answered
Have ordered the boyu for the versatility of 1 2 or 3 lamps also lampspecs sell daylight tubes and I have found grolux tubes
Many thanks again
Ps have you planted any hc yet?
Matt
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi hoggie thanks for the answer
Just a couple more
Is the build quality about the same on the luminaire legs aside ?
Would you say the boyu is a little more veratile light wise?
I think I'm swaying towards the boyu as tubes seem easy to come by would you say it's ok
Many thanks again
Matt...
Could you tell me how it's better than the boyu? Have you had the boyu as well?
Do you run both the 18w tubes or just one?
Matt

Not 20x only 10x
So for your 60l you would be looking at a filter with a 600lhr flow rate
Lots to choose from
As for what the guy in the lfs said well turning down the flow via a tap can cause back pressure but you wouldn't need to turn it down too much on a 600lhr and there's lots that can be...
Hi guys
Looking at upgrading the light on my 30cm cube
Running a 11w cfl at mo but it's really ugly
Looking at this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UP-PRO-L-29cm-1ft ... 5630wt_939
Or this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Boyu-Overhead ... 3a50b697a5
What is the better option
Anyone running either ?
If so what...
Hi hogtie love the scape coming along nicely
Hope the hc works out
Could you tell me where you got your light from? Looking for something similar but all I can find is 3x 12w t5 or 2x 18w cfl
Cheers matt
