sorry but I have to call BS on this.
Don't want to spark glutaraldeyde safety debate on this but that is over the top.
Do you put a safety suit on to fill up your car with diesel?
I keep pimping the sunsuns wherever I can.
Only supplier I can find in the UK is this one:
http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/aquar ... 212-0.html 1000lph for £50
You can also get a 2000lph filter with 9v uv steriliser built in for £80 inc. shipping
The difference between this and the shitty carbon plate electrolysis method is that this method would take either the tank water in or some DIY high conc. carbonate solution (which would be cheap) and create CO2 from it.
The bubbles created would not need to be pressurised, they could be fed...
Hi all,
Google didnt help me out much here. I want to know if it is safe or aesthetically effective to put barbecue charcoal in an aquarium to make a cheap black rock formation. I think the jet black colour could look really nice against the lush greens of the plants.

Hi,
This is a totally different method to the product you linked to, and has been proven efficient enough to be used in industry.
0.6 kWh to produce 1KG CO2 will cost you about 10pence. The system would need the alkali solutions to be pumped around though so add another 20 watts when in use...
Since my tap water is really hard and contains lots of carbonate (CO3 2-) I thought it would be really cool if there was something I could do to the water while it was in the tank to convert the carbonate to CO2.
Well, it seems like lots of research is going on with carbon capture, to capture...
Just received my dropchecker in the post today. 6quid delivered from thailand. Pretty unimpressive thing really.
After setting it up I had to feed the baby which gave me the idea for a DIY drop checker.
You will need:
Silicone adhesive (aquarium safe)
Suction cup holder for attaching the drop...
search ebay uk for FIRE EXTINGUISHER CO2 5 KG FULL AND UNUSED and you will find a seller named yellowhood99 who has loads of 5kg extinguishers for sale for dirt cheap (£3 yes three) cheap
too far away for me but might be of use to some on here.

BOC charge too much. I've just bought a 2kg CO2 cylinder from germany for 50EUR inc. del, (getting it tomorrow!) but had this idea whilst replacing the butane on my oven today.
thanks for the replies so far, looks like it's a no go based on regulations. I am in belgium and if I was gonna have a...
Hi,
I have an empty butane canister used for my oven in my garage. Bit of a beast, holds 12.5 kg butane.
Assuming the valve will fit a regular aquarium regulator, could this tank be filled with CO2?
Are there safety reasons, differences in construction etc that would mean a LFS would refuse...
Hi,
I would prefer to buy it prediluted (a la metricide) for the safety concerns. I do not want to mix super concentrated stuff myself...because that's when it really starts to become dangerous.
Regards,
I dont want to get into a large discussion about Glut.
In my opinion, metricide = Excel, just in a bit more concentrated form.
Dont believe the Excel hype.....
Hi,
I've posted this very same question on another forum but figure a forum specific to the UK would be a better idea
I am looking for pre-diluted (ie <5%) glutaraldehyde solution to use instead of excel/aquacarbon/plantedbox.
In the US they sell it under Metricide or Cidex which...
