Recommend any plants that will flower?

Thanks a lot all. Will have a look at all of them and maybe try growing a few emersed plants before I get the tank :) ( I was going to start growing some HC this way too so I had a good carpet going by the time the tank was running).

    DIY Pfertz link

hmmm you do make a very, very good point on cost of water vs cost of lighting (even using the energy saving bulbs I plan to use it will still cost more). The other reason I was interested in going for a leaner dosing route was because that is what I have used before and what I'am used to and...

Recommend any plants that will flower?

Starting to think about the scape and plants for a new project next year and I was curious if anyone can recommend any plants that will flower? I had an Aponogeton in a previous tank which flowered above the water all the time and was really nice (but way to big for the tank it was in at the...

    DIY Pfertz link

Is there anything like this around for the ADA fert range? Hopefully going to be setting up a 100g planted tank after Christmas and being on a water meter kind of knocks EI on the head as a 50g water change each week is going to end up costing a load. Was going for something like this and used...

    "Serenity Peak" Final Tank Shot

Great job! Tank looks brilliant, layout of the rocks is great and it has a really nice flow to it. How long has it been running?

48L aquascaped aquarium - where am I going wrong?

Just to re-iterate a point already made. Try not to disturb the substrate at all. I used to use AS on my planted tank and anytime I did a major replant I would always get a massive algae bloom soon after. If you do need to disturb the substrate at all then make sure you do a large water change...

Why does EI in high light tank not cause algae?

Thanks for that Tom. After reading that it makes a lot more sense and if I had thought about it in the right way I should have come to the same conclusion. As you say marine environments are incredibly stable so life has adapted to this and small changes in water chemistry can trigger big...

Why does EI in high light tank not cause algae?

Interesting! According to the answer it is ammonia that causes a bloom (at least in FW planted tanks). The next question is what level of ammonia is enough to cause this? Also in a marine environment this doesnt seem to tie in as a rising level of phosphate would cause an algae bloom? Unless of...

Why does EI in high light tank not cause algae?

Thanks :) it was his post that got me thinking about it: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1211 According to this the maximum possible uptake in a planted tank with unlimited light is: Nitrate (NO3) 20ppm per week. Potassium (K) 30ppm per week. Phosphate (PO4) 3ppm per week Magnesium (Mg) 10ppm per week...

Why does EI in high light tank not cause algae?

Thats the bit I dont get though. In an EI tank isnt the point that all nutrients are supplied over and above the plants requirements so that they always have a constant supply of everything (meaning there is surplus in the water column)? I might have just missed the point completely though :)

Why does EI in high light tank not cause algae?

I know for a fact that high doses of phosphate and nitrate in a heavily planted, well lit CO2 enriched tank do not cause algae issues. The thing I'm curious about is why? From what I have read everyone says that in a high light setup as long as you have plenty of ferts (EI for example) and...

Leaky Soloniod - Can it be fixed? and will my reg fit on FE?

Yeah it is :) Been ages since I was last on UKAPS (I signed up about the same time as I took my planted tank down I think). Thanks for the link. I still have a few disposable bottles sitting around but once they have gone I will go for a FE setup. i wasn't going to bother with the CO2 at all...

Leaky Soloniod - Can it be fixed? and will my reg fit on FE?

I have been thinking about setting up a planted tank again and have all my old equipment laying around from when I took mine down a couple of years ago. The problem I had with my last planted tank was the soloniod went and when it was supposed to be switched off it still let some CO2 through. I...

    Shrimps

I got 12 cherry shrimp at the weekend and they have all pretty much vanished now. I occasionally see one come out but they all seem to live in the plant on the right of my tank. Very cute and interesting to watch :) I want to get a couple of filter feeding shrimp but accord to PFK they dont do...
