    mmm salicylic acid is for all intents and purposes aspirin(derived from the bark of a tree),if it is proven to be a good algae remover i'd just desolve a few in water and bung it in the tank and not bother paying silly money for a proprietary brand.

    my first 2kg fe lasted for aproximately 3 months using a ladder diffuser and now i'm using an inline at 4 bps i'm only getting a month out of them,i've checked for leaks at 1 bar pressure and found nothing is this normal? i'm just about to order my 4th :crazy: .

    no i never use cold water,i use the mixer tap to get it as close to the required temp(usually around 25 degrees c),dunno what happens but i clean all the glass and after a couple of day's she seems to fatten up then she's off eggs everywhere.

    if no water changes are being performed i would think that the build up of fish waste and plant matter would be sufficient for the plants,but would probably be a good idea to reduce the amount of c02 for the duration of your trip. just a thought.

    i love this thread,i've never used a test kit and just relied on how my fish look,if they look healthy then all is well if not then water changes are the way forward.i have'nt gone into ferts etc because i've never gone deep into keeping plants but i guess the same applies.
