    Multi Micro Baby Fish food

As it is such a fine power I was able to dip a finger into a small amount of the feed and rub my fingers together in the tank water and put a lot of particles into the water. They stayed in the water column quite well so a little goes a long way. Hopefully I’ll have less wasted food in the...

    Multi Micro Baby Fish food

I have had some very small ember tetras for a few weeks now and they have been really difficult to feed. I’ve tried live, frozen, powdered dried foods, fry foods and crushing commercial fish foods. They must be eating something as they are still here and have grown a little. I have never seen...

    Feeding Repashy

I use a 1 to 2 mix of powder and water. Squeezing some through a garlic press made ‘worms’ for the tetras to chase. Feeding them first helps as they aren’t swarming the food on rocks and wood. You need a rough surface. Rough rocks, wood, the back of a ceramic tile terracotta plant weight...

Do you switch filter off when feeding

We use smart plugs too. All named so we can use them with Alexa or from our phones. I have FX filters and they are set to go off at 8pm so that any maintenance I do doesn’t trigger the auto stop/start when we aren’t around just in case they don’t restart. Also, there’s a sofa bed in the...

Do you switch filter off when feeding

I turn the filter off for frozen and messy foods that would end up all over the tank. After 10 mins I remove any uneaten food I can see with a turkey baster. I leave the filter on for pellets like Hikari that are easy to clean up. Most of the fish are full grown and swallow pellets immediately.

    Otto Help

Pretty sure the instructions on that one expect you to dose your whole aquarium once a week until the fish is better. Something I wouldn’t want to do. I don’t like the thought crashing the tank if it kills the filter bacteria. Do you have a little isolation tank and air stone you could use to...

    Dirty Mischief

I have a tiny tank that is running without a filter atm. If I have to add one it will be the Aquael Pat filter. It is tiny and uses a powerhead rather than a noisy air pump. There is a mod on Youtube to add a second sponge if necessary

That's what I had to do when I used co2. I had too rescue a few fish who struggled with it even when I thought it was turned down low. I have a 500l (established) tank and last time I added 40 cardinal tetra in one go with no noticeable water quality issues. I just fed the fish sparingly...

    Baby fish

They are kribs. The parent fish were not bothered at first but are now showing more interest after a cardinal tetra attacked the babies
  15. A

    Baby fish

No. I suspected kribs but usually the kribs are very protective. The other fish are only interested in eating them. Will have to wait and see what they look like if they survive

They are really small. Don't rate their chances in a tank full of Angelfish but better than my chances of netting them successful in a huge, deep tank.

Found dead otos this am and a very sick looking kribensis. When I went to the end of the tank to check the thermometer I found it lying broken in the substrate. I'm assuming it has released something nasty into the tank. Massive water change done and I'll do the same again everyday for the...

Hi, I did a larger than usual water change on my tank today (to rescue my scissors that I dropped at the back of the tank without ending up soaked - the joys of an extra deep tank when you are short!) The replacement water was a bit cooler than usual (both heaters came on immediately) and it...

Shoaling fish recommendations for an large Angelfish tank

They were sold as standard Angels but were very small. Two have much fins longer fins and tails and very long points on their tails. One of the black ones is an evil little critter. He chases the smaller fish and nips our hands when we do maintenance on the tank. I do wonder if we will have...

I'd love them. Ottos are great but so would the Angel fish. The outcome would be bad for both fish as the Angels consider anything that will fit in their mouths to be food. The Ottos spines make them a deadly meal sometimes otherwise I'd have loads already I saw a friend lose an beautiful...

Food grade Nori flakes for fish?

Nori flakes were a hit. They break up a bit in the tank but the Angelfish, Tetras went mad for them. There was a proper feeding frenzy. Will try nori sheets next as they are on offer in Sainsburys. 100% seaweed so should be a healthy treat for them

Hi, I know Ottos are supposed to only be interested in algae and veg. Twice in the last 7 days we have dropped a frozen cyclops cube into the tank and, while the main feeding frenzy has been taking place at the top of the tank, we have noticed the little shoal of ottos start swimming round...

    I need new fish food

Another vote for Hikari. My fish fight over the Hikari algae wafers but aren't fussed with other types such as Novo tabs. The micro pellets are good as they are tiny so can used sparingly. Frozen bloodworm too. I melt a block down in tank water and add a little bit at a time so they only get...

    Rainbow fish and co2

Originally I intended to keep them in 500l+ but can't see them suffer with the co2. Anyone know how dwarf neon rainbows cope with co2? Might give these a try if someone has kept them successfully in a hugh tech tank. Hubby is talking about getting 8 of them.

Hi, Do rainbow fish have a lower tolerance to co2 than other species? I have recently added a pair of bosemanni rainbows to my high tech tank and have had to move them back to the quarantine tank as they seem unable to cope with the co2 levels. They were added when the co2 levels were very...

    Baby panda corys

Good luck with the cory tank. Mine have spawned in my 90l community tank. It is very heavily planted at one end and had a few bits of bogwood with moss so there must be a few good hiding places. Adding cubes of dried tubifex to their diet and using cooler water at water changes seems to have...

Can you recommend a shoaling fish for the top of the tank?

Re: Can you recommend a shoaling fish for the top of the tan That's a pity. We are near London so the water is very hard. Every droplet that's allowed to dry leaves a white sediment. Limescale removers are a regular item on the shopping list.

Both of those get big (12cm) so I think 8 would be too many for your tank. I'd only go for 4 but it is down to personal preference. Our local lfs have 6 full grown adults (various types) in a 5ft tank and it looks very full by my standards. I recently saw some wild caught boesemani for...

    centre piece fish?

Most of the colouful fish I can think of are either dwarf cichlids or likely to snack on the shrimp. My personal favorites are either apistogammas or dennisons barbs. The former are probably too close to the kribs and a shoal of the others might be a bit big given your stocking levels. BTW...

Personally I wouldn't have more than 10 small tetras or rasboras in a tank that size but ultimately depends on your maintenance schedule and what looks right to you. I have a u3 and aquaball with 4 cartridges in a 90l with less than quarter of the bioload you are suggesting and still end up...
  79. A

    Overstocked?

Depends on the size of tank. Rams and shrimp may be ok at first but the rams may see the shrimps as a buffet when they get bigger. I've got 4 in with my shrimp and I'm getting away with it for now but the rams will be moving to another tank in the summer.
