    Expert advice on hardscape

Hey Ady I bought Seiryu stones just to try it out. I think the scape looks better now but still needs "filling up". Cheers Gilles

    Expert advice on hardscape

Hi Ady I've been thinking of stones too, any ideas about the style? Maybe lava rocks because that will blend it nicely with the wood (+ easy to find over here). Can get Seiryu online too but I cannot handpick those so might be bad quality (20£ for 6kg)

    Expert advice on hardscape

Hi Alastair Good to hear from you, mate! I've added some extra akadama to the slopes (was already planning on doing that). I tried placing the wood as you say but that puts the wood too much in front, blocking the background. I've bought three extra litlle pieces of wood and added them. What...

    Expert advice on hardscape

Plants that I'll be using: On the wood: blender method with Fissidens & Riccardia. Java trident and narrow attached to the wood from base to halfway. Foreground: LIlaeopsis & E. acicularis mat. Different kinds of cryptocorynes in front of the wood base, also some anubias and bolbitis...

    Expert advice on hardscape

Hi guys I've started working on the basic hardscape of my "easy maintenance" tank. It's going to have a large piece of wood with lots of mosses, crypts, java ferns, E. tenellus, bolbitis, ... I'll do a dry start in the first phase (for the mosses & foreground) and in the second phase low...

    My non CO2 aquarium

Hi guys I November last year I made a video of my father's non CO2 tank that I set up for him. This was one month and a half after setup. The requirements for this tank were: lot's of plants, easy to maintain & low-cost. Specs: Lighting: 4x 36w T8 (no reflectors and lots of surface plants)...

New Aquascaping book by Oliver Knott and Chris Lukhaup

I had a look at the contents table and it looks very promising. Lot's of explanation and step-by-step guides. Really looking forward to this book, might even consider getting the German one :D

    Scaping a large tank

I think that would look nice too but I'm not sure whether my father will like it. Does it require a lot of trimming?

    Scaping a large tank

I'll probably use Pelia on the wood. I'm thinking of Sagittaria as a foreground plant and maybe some moss attached to rocks? I can also get the Akadama recommended on this forum for 12£/13 liter. Good deal?

    Scaping a large tank

Is Pelia easier than Java moss? Which foreground plants would you recommend?

    Scaping a large tank

Hi Clive No, not a transition from non-CO2 to CO2. Either low light - CO2 or low light - non CO2. But you are right about the extra gear and effort. Knowing my father, it's probably best to choose the low light - non CO2 option. The dry start method is very interesting. How fast do you think...

    Scaping a large tank

Thanks for the info everyone. Low tech. My father doesn't have the time, will and experience to go high tech. I'll go non CO2 then. I just thought adding CO2 with low light would fill up the tank better. I'll first upgrade the internal filter then and maybe later add an extra filter or pump...

    Scaping a large tank

Hi My father has decided to get rid of his cichlids after many years. He was fed up with them digging up everything. I was able to convince him getting a planted, non co2 tank. The tank is 150x50x55cm which is about 500 liter. It has an internal filter with a 1000 liter pump. I'd like to use...

How to make a nice background?

I had a good look at George's scapes and noticed that he either uses a poster or the colour of the wall in combination with a light source. Since my filter is located behind the tank I have no choice but to remove the sticker and use just the poster.

How to make a nice background?

I'm looking for a plastic background ,like a poster against the glass, much like the ones used in Nature Aquariums (all black etc)

How to make a nice background?

Hey guys I'm trying to make a beautiful background for my nano. The tank has a sticker on the backside which gives it a sandblasted look. I'd like to add some colour since the filter, which is positioned behind the nano, can be seen. I tried a black background but in combination with the...

    Open aquariums

Hi guys this might be a strange question, but how do you keep the fish in with open aquariums? I often see open aquariums filled to the top with water but the last time I did this, a fish killed itself by jumping out. Now I have a plastic cover but I miss the beautiful ripple on the surface ...

Looking for amateur tank pics & specs!

Hi guys I'm still building my aquascaping blog which will have an "inspiration category". I know I can use the pictures from the sticky and contests but I'm also looking for amateur tanks. Preferably tanks with full specs (lighting, fertilizers, filtration, ...). The name of the designer will...

Let's talk: creating my next tank

Go for the plain sand, it looks great and very natural. I use it in one of my nano's and simply LOVE it! About the lighting: I'd start with 24w, full EI and good, stable CO2 and then slowly increase the lighting if necessary.
