Great Article, I agree with you on all points and I don't see anything "contradictory" Its a pity that CEG is hiding away from this until George gets back I always enjoy his posts!
Nice one GeorgeF :D
Re: British Macro-algae tank
thanks for the input guys, I was considering condensation as that would be the main concern, I was thinking about using a Beer Fridge and running the outlet of the filter thought it to cool the tank.
Would love to look into Freediving Foxfish, pity im so bad at...
I went snorkelling off the coast of Scotland last weekend and saw some amazing algae, I was quite stunned at how much life and variations in colour and texture there was in 6 inches of water! So many hermit crabs and an fish!
My question is has anyone setup a cold water macro algae tank? And...
Live animals and Fish are two different things it seems. I have had royal mail deliver fish as well as APC, even with "Live Tropical Fish - Handle with Care" Stickers. I also work at the airport and unload both Royal mail and Parcel force cargo planes which regularly contain live fish.
I'd...
Get rid of the fancy goldfish?
Prob like you suggested some plants on wood, but since there gonna be living in cold water (I think that's correct) then your limited with your plants too.
Good luck!
OMG Invaders from Beyond the Void
I used to get these all the time! They have large tails that reach the surface and allow them to take in air. Very cool and if I remember rightly the goldfish like em too.
WHEN that happens that's going to be the least of our worries, be easily the end of most technology and living on the surface of the earth for a few 10's of years I should imagine.
On second thoughts... the Biggest mistake I've made was using DIY yeast Co2 mix, went to work came home to find the dog sleeping next to the bottle on its side and the tank full of Yeast and dead fish. Everything but the Clown Plec and the Corys died :/
Guess they don't like alcohol and Sugar!
Installed a glass intake for my filter and came home from work to find 2 apple snails and my male ADF stuck to the intake dead :( not impressed!
P.s I also blew up a plastic check valve last week!
to be quite honest id take the extra silicone and the peace of mind over 200litres of water all over my floor!
And really how many people come and see out tanks, look at the silicone and say...hmm thats shoddy! If the Plants and fish aren't captivating them, then were not doing our jobs right!
It's completely normal for this to happen as your removing what is called the "apical meristem" which is the part of the stem that elongated and grows. Without this the stem does not grow, hence why we trim at the nodes.
Just above or below the leaves on the node the plant leave two new...
I got 2 of each posters on stickyback so there easy to mount £8 for the 4 and the 100 glossy 1 sided leaflets where about £20ish.
Worth it to look professional it's nice to give back to a forum and hobby that's done so much for me.
I doubt they can hold you liable as that would mean I could go on holiday and send you a brick in a box marked £2000 and you'd have to pay handling on that! Lol
Thanks for this post George, Should help a lot! I'm thinking of talking to my local dobbies garden center about getting one setup, they stock a lot of Tropica plants and while the holding tanks aren't great i feel that if they had a decent planted display tank then they would be able to sell...
Its simple enough you get a pair of scissors and cut it up into whatever size you want, already loads of runners appearing after just two weeks. Very Healthy! Def going to be using 1-2-Grow again if i need them.
I can confirm that the 1 2 grow pots are loaded with plants just planted my new tank up with para and it's doing great! Awesome quality and already growing rapidly!
I have to agree with Nayrr here. I don't see why you would keep them in barrels. I say keep them well or don't keep them at all. If The RSPCA covered fish, I recon th
