How big is the tank? 3 isn’t a good number for discus

You could always order online and get them delivered. I used to use devotedly discus. First lot I collected myself then I just got them delivered

have you tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

Looks like it has no filter so the ammonia levels are prob sky high and burning him

Breaking their line of site would help using plants and or rocks

Personally I wouldn’t keep discus in one that size

That’s where all my old discus came from mark is a top chap

Depends how small tho under a certain size it’s not advisable to keep a small group in a big tank. Not sure why but that’s what they always used to say

Won't be true altums if some guys breeding them. Only a handful of people have bred them in captivity hence why they are hard to find ect.

And with discus 6 is the magic number unless its a bonded breeding pair they dont do well in numbers under 6

its recomended 10 gallons per discus, Bare bottom tanks you can get away with more but they creat alot of poo and like plenty of fresh water. I keep discus they are not very hard to keep if you can provide plenty of very clean stable water

I have corydoras melini which are ment to be quite rare. And bottia kubotai which are rare as hens teeth down here

Rams are dwarf cichlids, if you do get some try and get wild caught or f1 they have much better colouring than captive bred ones.

Altums aint even as hard to keep as discus far less fussy. Near impossible to breed tho in captivity. All they need is a big deep tank and good water

yup sounds like a big ammonia spike from adding way to many fish at once specialy for that size tank

I've set up 2 cultures like the American bloke on YouTube with the plastic mesh over the food. How long does it take fefor u can harvest some? There's loads in the soils and under the food just not many on the sides and on the mesh yet. It's only been running since last weds or thurs mind

That's exactly what HC is it needs very powerful lighting in a deep tank mines 22 inches deep and my t8 fighting don't cut it my HC all melted. If the bristle nosed catfish is a ancestrious catfish then yes it is a BN plec Would of thought sand is the best for kuhlies

I would not bother with the bottled filter starters biomature ect they are rubish. If you go low tech make sure you choose plants that dont need lots of co2. Im not sure if you could find easycarb localy but a couple of our sponsors sell it aquaessentials for one. EI is a dry fertilising...

you would need 12.63ml of ammonia for your tank the homebase household ammonia is what most people use

trouble with using food for ammonia is it takes alot of food to get it to 4ppm so ammonia is a cleaner more effiant source. Media squeaze will be better than a bought filter aid aslong as its from a desease free tank

the ammonia is a food source for the friendly bacteria (wich will come from the fish poo and wee once they are in) I still used it to cycle mine infact im still using it even tho im cycled because it will be a few weeks befor my discus are in the contry. Gives the plants time to be nice and strong

black widows should be ok personaly I find them a little dull

tiger barbs get pretty big so if your trying to get stuff that kind of matches size wise they might get to big.
