    Discus setup advice

Depends how small tho under a certain size it’s not advisable to keep a small group in a big tank. Not sure why but that’s what they always used to say

    Discus

And with discus 6 is the magic number unless its a bonded breeding pair they dont do well in numbers under 6
  31. RudeDogg1

    Discus

its recomended 10 gallons per discus, Bare bottom tanks you can get away with more but they creat alot of poo and like plenty of fresh water. I keep discus they are not very hard to keep if you can provide plenty of very clean stable water

    HELP! GUPPIES!!!!

Tony tan is captive breeding some stunning ones he's labled them as altums but they rant they are one of the others supposedly. Still stunning tho and £30 for a nearly adult sized one I'd have some if I had room in with me discus
  53. RudeDogg1

    HELP! GUPPIES!!!!

Altums aint even as hard to keep as discus far less fussy. Near impossible to breed tho in captivity. All they need is a big deep tank and good water
  54. RudeDogg1

    Fish dying

yup sounds like a big ammonia spike from adding way to many fish at once specialy for that size tank
  55. RudeDogg1

    whiteworm cultures

I've set up 2 cultures like the American bloke on YouTube with the plastic mesh over the food. How long does it take fefor u can harvest some? There's loads in the soils and under the food just not many on the sides and on the mesh yet. It's only been running since last weds or thurs mind

    Hi and some questions

I know what you mean sanj I noticed that in ma at the weekend they have started to look like the green ones. When I had my first saturday job when i was about 15 they looked totally different and clean and allways seemed smaller than they are now
  61. RudeDogg1

Bottom dwellers, carpets & a deep tank

Just curious why did you go so narrow? Mines either 16 or 18 and I still think it would be nicer bigger lol
  62. RudeDogg1

Bottom dwellers, carpets & a deep tank

It's 38w t8 think they r 36 or 40 inches long one is a dennerile (can't spell it) plant pro + 4500 kelvin I think it's kelvin prob the wrong word I don't know lol the other is a trocal. Sand for easy burrowing. Personally I don't agree with u about sand many people have awesome planted sand...
  63. RudeDogg1

Bottom dwellers, carpets & a deep tank

That's exactly what HC is it needs very powerful lighting in a deep tank mines 22 inches deep and my t8 fighting don't cut it my HC all melted. If the bristle nosed catfish is a ancestrious catfish then yes it is a BN plec Would of thought sand is the best for kuhlies
  64. RudeDogg1

Bottom dwellers, carpets & a deep tank

I really wanted a HC carpet but my lights just ain't powerful enough for it :0(
  65. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

12.63 ml will get u to the correct level of 4ppm good luck with it keep us updated. Check out my set up journal
  66. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

EI is all the eliments in dry form which you mix with water and add daily which can also be bought from several of our sponsors. Currently Im using tropica plant nutrition + which is a liquid food but once ive used my 2 bottles up Im switching to the TFF mix from our sponsore aquariumplantfood...
  67. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

I would not bother with the bottled filter starters biomature ect they are rubish. If you go low tech make sure you choose plants that dont need lots of co2. Im not sure if you could find easycarb localy but a couple of our sponsors sell it aquaessentials for one. EI is a dry fertilising...
  68. RudeDogg1

Bottom dwellers, carpets & a deep tank

bristle nosed plecs should be alright Kuhlis like to burrow so i dont know what they will be like
  69. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

Its basicly a liquid co2 addative for low tech tanks Rudi
  70. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

Allso your going to need some sort of co2 added wether it be easycarbo or a preasurised system
  71. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

it does take a while for a fishless cycle it is sped up by it being a planted tank but still takes 3 - 4 weeks. All you do is set the tank up fill it up get everything running and planted add the ammonia. Leave it a week or so then test for ammonia and nitrIte. What you want it to do is the...
  72. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

you would need 12.63ml of ammonia for your tank the homebase household ammonia is what most people use
  73. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

trouble with using food for ammonia is it takes alot of food to get it to 4ppm so ammonia is a cleaner more effiant source. Media squeaze will be better than a bought filter aid aslong as its from a desease free tank
  74. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

the ammonia is a food source for the friendly bacteria (wich will come from the fish poo and wee once they are in) I still used it to cycle mine infact im still using it even tho im cycled because it will be a few weeks befor my discus are in the contry. Gives the plants time to be nice and strong
  75. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

tiger barbs get pretty big so if your trying to get stuff that kind of matches size wise they might get to big.
  78. RudeDogg1

    Hi and some questions

Welcome to the fold One thing to bare in mind with tiger barbs is they are buggers for fin nipping. So if you intend to get anything with trailing fins or slow moving id give them a miss Rudi
