Thanks, they are by far my favourite fish I've kept, really looking forward to watch these develop. Went out and bought a mini selection of foods for them to see what they like best, so far good old flake is winner, not given bloodworms yet... Will be looking for some freeze dried brine shrimp...

Hello Everyone Thought I would start a journal off on my tank which has just been torn down and ready for a new scape.. You can see the old setup here and when it looked it's best here.. I decided to take off some of the old aquasoil and topped it up to give the substrate more depth this time...

Thanks again :) I have had the original group of discus since April 08, they must be about 3 years old, the rest were bought Feb 09, a few are dinner plate size, so at least 3-4yrs old i recon, maybe more as they are all wilds.. :?:

Great start, especially for your first planted tank :) i like your hardscape so far, as you say i think you could do with some more aquasoil to the rear on the left of the big slope. I would add more as in the future the soil will tend to compact especially between the rocks. Not too sure on...

Loving the work gone into this, lots of potential on the planted side of things! Co2, ever thought of getting an inline reactor, always found they are more efficient, i use a aquamedic 1000, used it also on a trigon 350 years ago and worked great. Probably, i would give it a go and find out...

Yea the altums are definately needed.. The tank water is at its highest level as its the afternoon and thats when the water change happens, then by morning it sits under the braces.

Many thanks Yep, it is upside down, that picture was taken just after i glued it all up, it has since been switched around. When i get the chance i will be changing the filtration setup and adding another diffuser, about flowing bottom to top, thats just how i fitted it, not done intentionally...

Small update Have thinned out the ferns lower down and have started to fill up the top branch, the plan is to fill that up. I got some more balansea from George's old tank, which is still a little deformed, but should straigten up in a week or so, mine acually has started to grow quite quick...

Nice start, I think the wood needs to be bigger and the stones smaller. I think the rocks in the front could go in the substrate more or made smaller, esp the central one.
