I'm using one, doesn't seem to impact flow as much as I thought it would. What size is then return hose on the Eheim? I found reducing the diameter for the heater noticeably affects then flow rate.
Well, the Brashaws tap would work but the internal diameter is quite small. I've found another that looks better, much cheaper so I've ordered a pair: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... -051422545
Do you run with the ceramic media in a bag or lose in the trays? I can see reasons for both, flow reduced with a bag, but detritus kept away from media.
325l drilled = Fluval FX5 External (2300lph) Output split between AM1000 and Hydor external heater.
Have a Koralia 4 (4000lph) but probably not going to need it with the above!
I was going to use some carbon to remove the tannins from my bog wood as it hasn't been soaked yet so will leak quite heavily initially.
So two trays of bagged ceramic media and one of lose bio balls? Should the balls go before the ceramic?
Does it matter if the ceramic rings are not branded? Massive price diffence between the major brands and the generic stuff!
Does carbon not absorb plant nutrients? I thought carbon was a big no no?
Hi all,
Just got a Fluval FX5 and need to decide on some media, any suggestions? I've got 6 litres to fill! (3 baskets)
Aquarium will have a medium load and be heavily planted, hi-tech (300 litres, 4 x 54w T5's, Co2, EI etc)
Thanks
I've searched high and low, no such thing as a reducing Y piece near the sizes needed it seems.
What about this?
http://www.bradshawsdirect.co.uk/Bradsh ... Y10HT8.htm
Well, I just spent an afternoon looking for a Y piece that will adapt from 25mm to 16mm - couldnt find it online or in the lfs!
So you own an FX5? What size aquarium do you have it on? I noticed George Farmer is running one on an aquarium thats smaller than mine, I was worried it might be too...
Hi Matt,
Had a thought last night, why not use two Y splitters on the output hose, one to split the output from 1" to 2x 1\2" feeding the external heater and AM1000 reactor, then another to combine the two back to 1" hose. I could then cut off the 1\2" barbs on the inlet\outlet underneath the...
I've just seen the cost of the double taps, £70! Ouch!
Did you ever look at the 2262? It has the taps and larger pump but I cannot find any in the UK.
So the 2260 with taps is about £300, what do you think about the Fluval G6 as an option?
2260 is 2400 lph
G6 is 2460 lph
It's a lot smaller...
Just removed the inlet\outlet pipe from the drilled holes, it looks like they have dual barbs, one being 1 inch:
So I could cut the inlet, connect the 2260 inlet and then connect the 22\16 outlet to the AM1000 and back up to the uncut outlet.
Hi Matt,
Looks like the 2260 has the same problem, the inlet is 25/34mm. Excellent flow rate though - would have been perfect.
The other filter with good flow rates was the 2080, but that has two inlets unfortunately.
Anything else on the market that can push 2000+lph through 16/22mm hose?
Well, now I have a new tank on the way I can start thinking about the details!
The tank holds 325 litres (120 x 47 x 65cm) has a large amount of wood and will be heavily planted.
This will be high light\co2 so will require some decent water movement. I'm not too confident the Fluval 405 I have...
They said "I confirm that this tank will be perfectly fine to be used as advised by the manufacturer of the item. There is a bracket included in the tank that should cover up this damage so that it cannot be seen."
Well, originally the tank was delivered unannounced - Gave it a good inspection inside for damage when I got home, all ok. 4\5 weeks later I set it up (I didn't remove the cardboard box until I was ready to move the aquarium on top of the stand). Noticed the trim\base of the tank in one corner...
The metal trim was dented during delivery - I didn't notice until 5 weeks after it was delivered (when setting it up) retailer said it would be fine to use, just cosmetic damage but half way full and crack! Apparently it's not covered so I'm very gutted!
Ordered some 16/22 Eheim from ebay, thanks Matt!
I'm a bit worried about losing the 2 year AM warranty if I cut the barbs, will it have much of an impact if I leave them?
Its a fluval 405, the AM1000 has different barbs compared to images I've seen, mine seems much smaller with double barbs?
Purchased from here: http://www.aquariumsuperstore.co.uk/Aqu ... 71113.html
Hi,
Has anyone managed to 'adapt' the AM1000 to fit on larger hose? I've replaced the (ribbed) hose with some standard fluval stuff, but this seems too large to fit on the AM1000, even with some jubilee clips on.
Do I need a reducer, such as...
I've got some standard fluval tubing that fits great - the eheim stuff had thick walls that wouldn't secure properly.
Flow wise, I've just purchased a koralia 4000lph as I thought the flow on the fluval 405 would be reduced - I'm hoping it will be enough to power the reactor and heater though as...
So that's half of the problem, could I ask what size tubing you used? I'm going to order the Hydor and some tube and have a look - The tank is still boxed so not really sure how the connector works yet.
Hi all,
I have a Fluval Profile aquarium with a drilled bottom for the 405 pump inlet/outlet.
I want to use an inline heater and a Co2 reactor but the hoses are ribbed, has anyone replaced them?
I'm not sure if the connectors on the tank can take a non ribbed hose?
Would it be best to put the...
