Just curious what shrimps everyone is keeping in the UK besides Cherries and Crystals. Post here with your experiences and pics if you can
Mmm, thanks for the heads up. I only ever see the tangerines on water change day, so don't want more of the same. They are very shy. Even when I had the 20 of them I barely ever saw them.
I had some green Caridina cf. babaulti <"for a while"> (from another @frothhelmet shrimp thread <"Surveying Caridina cf. Babaulti experiences">).I used to have a 20 strong army of Babaulti shrimps. I only have 1 left. I put the last one in my amano shrimp tank for a peaceful end of life. They are very shy.
So you have the same experience. They are shy and hide.Hi all,
I had some green Caridina cf. babaulti <"for a while"> (from another @frothhelmet shrimp thread <"Surveying Caridina cf. Babaulti experiences">).
cheers Darrel
Difficult to say for me, but yes, I virtually never saw them and even when they were hiding in plain sight? I didn't always realise until they moved. So you have the same experience. They are shy and hide.
Sometimes I walk up to my shrimp tank and hardly see any.... It's almost like they conspired to give me the silent treatment...I only ever see the tangerines on water change day
What is a circulator? You just mean a filter?I also keep a trio of bamboo shrimp, in my experience a dedicated circulator is essential to their prosperity and longevity.
So cool. Why do you think your colony died off without replenishing?I am not in the UK, but I used to have a 20 strong army of Babaulti shrimps. I only have 1 left. I put the last one in my amano shrimp tank for a peaceful end of life. They are very shy. Even when I had the 20 of them I barely ever saw them. They were always hiding.

I keep a strain from wild caught Caradina Holthuisi, I got these from Chris Lukhaup (that's what he said they were but I am not sure) when we visited Vivarium a decade ago! They still going strong, the odd ones develop some colour but mostly they look like mini Amanos! They breed well but will fight other shrimp like crazy for food.
What they look like!

Yeah very similar they are Caradina after all, with some selective breeding I am sure could get some nice colours, I added the best ones to the Aquascape 900, and they had some nice colours in there. But the Barbs took a taste to them and wiped them out!Cool. Morphologically they look like Crystals.
Got loads of these guys if anyone is interested!Wow, they really do look like mini amanos.
