Hi Jacob, Personnaly I would scrap it. On my 90 cm tank using all four sections of the spray bar to cover the length of the tank I found the flow was good in the first 40 cm but dropped off massively towards the end to almost a trickle. Without the spray bar attached it gives better circulation...
Nice stand youve built there and looks great in white. As you have to cycle the tank for a few weeks why not just weigh the wood down with a spare rock. By the time youre ready to add livestock the wood should be soaked enough not to float. Did this with mine with a 4 week fishless cycle and no...
Found this link the other day. It doesn't tranlate well but the pics give you an idea on how its done and which plant was used.http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... cVUWsQctpw
Re: 120 x 55 x 55cm planted with pics
Wow, that full tank shot looks so cool. An epic in the making mate. So looking forward to seeing this in a few months.
Im with you both on this one. Whilst no end of skill, time and effort has gone into creating these mini landscapes I too feel they lack a true naturalistic appeal. Its often the same with all top ranking tanks the world over, Mini mountain ranges and forests which look odd with a shoal of fish...
Morning all,
Hopefully my ei starter kit should arrive today from one of the forums sponsers :D . I was just wondering if plain old tap water is ok to make up the mix or wether I need to use RO or distilled.
I will be following their mixing and dosing ratio's but if anyone has a better...
Nice one. Just given it a scrub down with scouring pad and bba came off nice and easy. Fortunately no bba on moss so no need to bleach dip.( sounds pretty hardcore) . Ordered some easycarbo so will paint that onto effected areas when it arrives.wood back in tank now after water change.
What is the best way to go about reusing some redmoor that is being treated for bba. Currently part covered in christmas moss but on bare exposed branches Im battling bba.
Want to rescape using said branches. If I remove wood and moss and let it dry out will this kill the spores?
Tried every method you could possibly think of to get 16/22mm tubing to my APS 2000ef filter to no avail. Runnning a fluval alongside so I can attach heater and co2 inline to that.
Be carefull when firing up your APS for the first time as the flow was so powerfull without spraybar attached that...
Nice stand by the way. I built one exactly the same for my 90x45x45 and was well chuffed on the saving. As for ADA Aquasoil I used 2 x9litre amazonia and 1 x 9litre powder with a bag of powersand m beneath the lot. Plenty of substrate giving me 6cm at the front and about 12cm at rear corner...
Go for the 300watt Hydor and change the hose to 16/22mm. I currently have one running on a 205 along with an Up atomiser.
The standard fluval hose was a good fit to the Hydor but certainly wasn't as tight as normal filter hose. Also no problems attaching the 16/22mm to the filter.
I'll second Ed's opinion on the APS externals. Currently running a 2000ef on a 180 ltr tank and for the £ 60 I paid it is superb. Yes it may feel cheap to the likes of the bigger brands but its got all the media included and it gives one hell of a flow rate. Only draw back is the filter hose...
Re: The journey begins...5 week update
Well I think its been around 5 weeks into this scape and at the moment Im very pleased. Since its initial stages Ive added some stems to the rear either side of the vallis to fill it out and create some contrasting textures. No idea what they are as the...
Re: The journey begins...
Ok folks its up and running at last. Its been a while in the making but I think its been worth it. Here is what has gone into this set up.
substrate
1x ADA power sand special s
1 x ADA power sand m
1x ADA Amazionia
1 x ADA Amazonia powder
old florabase to help bulk...
Have 9 ltr bag in my 11gal and yes it is light. For stem plants it was fine for planting in. Just remove the bottom few leaves to give you a better stem to push right into the substrate and they will be fine.
Have struggled with glosso and hc though. Difficult for the runners to root into...
Thanks Ceg,
Tank dimensions 90x45x45
Allponds 2000ef with spraybar running length of tank. Fluval 205 with atomizer with flow directed into spraybar.
Thats my plan mate
thanks,
Thanks for the replies guys.
I realised they would be a reduction in flow but 42% is crazy. I think I shall be using my Fluval 205 instead for my atomizer and I can fit a Hydor 300 watt heater at same time. That way I can leave my main filter for filtraton only and keep up the flow.
If I do...
Thanks again for the advise. I went ahead and bought one last week and yes it was cheap in comparison to the eheim's and fluvals but not a bad bit of kit, rough around the edges etc ect.
Sorry to hear about the flooding Themuleous :( Will bear in mind the strength of this filter when cleaning...
Greetings all,
I was wondering if its possible to reduce 21/25mm pipework( supplied with my filter) to 16/22mm so I can fit an atomizer to the return.
As I will only need to reduce a section for the atomizer on the return only will this place undue stress on the filter or is it better to...
Hi All,
Im in the process of getting things together for my new set up and this is a strong contender in the filtration department.
My concern is that in a 90x45x45 180 litres will this be to much flow. I know I should be aiming for 10x turnover so at 2000lph it should be about right.
Is it...
Agree with spyder about the TGM scissors. Was up there a month ago and had a close look and hold of them and they do feel good quality. Well balanced and sharp.
Dont buy a cheap pair off ebay like I did as there rubbish and a pain when trying to maintain a carpet like Hc or glosso.
Re: Rebirth
Looking lush and so colourful. Nice to see an island scape as I intend to try one soon. A good source of inspiration for me. Any problems with the wood floating?
As my new 90x45x45 is going to take a while to get together I thought I would rescape my current set up. I was starting to stockpile some plants but got bored whilst the kids were in school today and rather than do my usual Monday water change and rock clean I thought I would have a little...
After reading so many inspiring journals on this forum I thought I should include you all on my latest adventure. I have to warn you all in advance that this will be a slow builder and may not really get going until after the madness that is Christmas.
So far the tank is purchased and the stand...
Yeah your right, 4 bar it is then. I think I will go for the Aqua Medic 1000 external reactor. A bit pricey but no more so than a descent diffuser and less hassle cleaning weekly. Thanks for all the advise tho.
Cheers
Mark
Thanks for the reply. Being an UP branded reg which I presume is Chinese there are no bar readings on the dials only psi and kg/cm2. Cheers for the offer but alas I have the crappy ribbed Fluval hosing on my filter so not sure if I could get a proper connection.
The bubbles seem fine, whilst...
Cheers, I did think it sounded rather high. The reg has been set at factory and definatly reads 60psi. According to the box 1bar =14.5psi. So 60 divided by 14.5=4.13 bar. Does that sound right? why would they pre set at such high working pressure?
In the process of setting up new tank and am thinking of scrapping my glass diffuser in favour of either an Up inline atomizer or an Aqua medic reactor. Working pressure is factory set and showing 65psi on the gauge at present which caculates at 4.48bar.
Plan A is to run a second external...
Why not try going down the fire extinguisher route. Its not as scary as you think and if you follow the guide on here like I did it then its straightforward and not that expensive. It was costing me around £14 a month replacing my 88g fluval cannisters and it only cost me £70 for a reg and 2kg...
Hi, your comments are most appreciated. In my haste I did forget to mention that it was for a new set up I am planning and will post as a journal in due time. New tank spec as follows.
75x45x45 optiwhite
2 x fluval 205's
fe co2
TPN, TPN+ and easy carbo
I just felt that to achieve a lush carpet...
Many thanks Ceg for a quick reply. I'm sure the colour will be fine and if I can save a few quid then thats a bonus. Should I drop the photoperiod right down from my current 7 hours on 24 watt t5 and then slowly increase over several weeks?
A truely epic and inpiring journal from start to finish. Loved every second of reading it, and cant wait to see the Iwagumi take shape.
Much respect and hopes of a speedy recovery for you.
Hi,
I have been looking at upgrading my lighting for some time and pricing up a T5 luminaire I made an impulsive bid and am now the proud owner of an Aquamedic 150watt halide with suspension kit.
Can anyone shed any light( excuse the pun) if I need to replace the current 10k with a 6500k or...
Re: 60cm iwagumi scape
Wow it looks so good. Have been thinking about rescaping my jungle for a while now and after seeing this beaut Im gonna take the plunge. 10 pots of hc arriving next week along with 10kgs TGM Bluestone.
Im running 3x 8w T5 luminaire over 9 gals. 2 white and 1 origional. No pressurised co2 just easycarbo and plant nutrition daily and so far all is well on the algae front. I found the origional tube to pink and dim so the whites balance it out better visually. Dont know kelvin rating of whites as...
Thanks alot guys for the help. Going to go down the diy route I think. Any benifits for using an upatomiser over a diffuser apart from less hardware in your tank?
Lights arrived today and there pretty good. Boyu 3 x 8watt T5 with 2 white and 1 atinic. Will change blue for a better bulb.
Now heres the dilema, in a tank of only 8.8 gal I really cant justify the prices of some pressurised systems on such a small tank. Ive been looking at the Fluval mini 20...
Thanks everyone for the advise. The lights in question can be used with all 3 on or 1 on and 2 off so I may run the latter to begin and build up the light intensity over a few months.
Looking forward to setting up my first nano after picking up a super fish Qube at auction for a bargain £6. It was just the tank with no light or filter. Any advise on the following items would be greatly recieved,
Lighting is being taken care of by boyu 3 x 8w t5 luminaire which should be...
