    My square descent into madness...

Looks like the China_mark. Hopefully it was just the one! Another thing, anyone know the cause for leggy plant growth? I am seeing growth but the inter-nodes are very long and weak.

    My square descent into madness...

Hi all, They <"might be Caddis">, but it is most likely it was a <"China-mark moth caterpillar">. A few people have had them in their tanks. cheers Darrel

    Id a bug please

Hi all, It is the caterpillar of a China-mark Moth. I don't know which one, but something like <"Brown China-mark (Elophila nymphaeata)"> looks likely. We have a <"[0]=484']couple of threads"> with these. cheers Darrel

    Metal Halide

Yes definitely, I agree that they produce the most beautiful light. Mark Evans used to run his tanks exclusively using Halide. His tanks were some of the prettiest Ive seen. Cheers,

5050SMD LED Light Bar Flexible LED Clip Light

Look nice but I doubt they are actually very bright your eyes are very very easily fooled into apparent brightness. Assuming they are Cree LED's (which at that price they are certainly not) they generate 100lumens per watt and this bar consumes 4W, therefore is 400lumen in 48cm. For comparison...

    Back to my Roots

Hi Mark, thanks for the comments. I knew I'd found a keeper when I saw it. The wood has holes in where the roots cross (pic will follow) so lights spreads through these, plus it's mainly Marsilea Hirsuta which is growing directly under the wood and is actually growing fairly fast. Thanks as...

    My new low tech attempt

I was at work when had I hastily uploaded that picture,... ,...here are a few more closer shots. Unfortunately they are not that super clear either because I am still taking these pictures with my cell phone. For what it's worth though,... The right front corner where the anubias petite...

What am I doing wrong with my Amazon Frogbit

...damage to the leaves. I've got similar looking damage on the Amazon Frogbit on my outside pond at the moment, and that is being caused by China-mark moth caterpillars <Small China-mark Cataclysta lemnata - UKMoths>. Any plants with aerial portions won't be suffering from a shortage of...

    Seven Moss Cube

...I think it is probably a caterpillar. We have a few in the UK that are aquatic and make very similar tubes. This is a common one in the UK, the "Brown China Mark" (Elophila nymphaeata): <Brown China-mark Elophila nymphaeata - UKMoths> the larval case in the additional pictures. cheers Darrel

    120 Litre Planted Aquarium (Journal)

120 Litre Planted Aquarium - Journal This particular aquarium has been running for a total of 2 years now; in the last 6 months plant growth has excelled and algae formation has come to an halt. Despite the aquarium being quite established and well-planted, I think there is still room for...

    Open-Top Aquarium - Your thoughts

For around 3 months now I have been undertaking a fishless aquarium cycle on a open-top aquarium. While undertaking this boring and sluggish ammonia-cycle, I've been re-arranging the hardscape to try and figure out exactly how I could go about creating a scenery which depicts a natural-looking...

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

Personally I think it has more to do with how you use the equipment you have. Are you saying 400w of light over a tank is not enough to light anything as far as taking an aquarium photograph goes? It should be anyway. Combine the use of aperture, shutter speed and ISO with that lighting and...

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

Well not everyone have Geismann tank light with two MH 150W or so units in it. Those are quite helpful when taking nice pictures. I assume the one you are showing you have made with a small pocket size camera or perhaps one from a mobile phone with some cheap China made luminary with just enough...

What Kelvin is the T5 Arcadia Plant pro?

Mark is absolutely right in pointing out this obvious inconsistency. Folks need to get real about Kelvin ratings of bulbs. They are strictly an illusion and are completely meaningless. Instead of swallowing the rubbish being fed to us by lamp vendors we should instead try to understand just what...
