Just lower the water within the tank so the plant leafs are above the water level - according the the climate experts there is too much Co2 with the atmosphere anyway

Two pieces of semi flexible netting with 4mm holes, I overlaped them and secured the edges with fishing line, prior to sowing I open the 4mm holes to 8mm and pushed some medium size suction cups through the back netting, these could not be seen hidden by the front netting. Looked great the...

Ordinary co2 diffuser underneath the intake pipe to the filter - small co2 bubbles into the filter were they get mashed up even more - thus no bubble emitted from my lily outlet and no bubbles floating around. The diffuser is hidden by my plant, the only issue is the green co2 pipe its visable...

reactors when full of fliter media usually slow the flow rate down from the filter, filter media is needed to mash the Co2 bubbles up. An easy way is the place a Co2 diffuser underneath the external filter inlet pipe, the Co2 gas bubbles will be mashed up whilst passing through the filter...
Water will alway get into the Co2 diffuser when the Co2 is not in use, the gas (C02) pressure will force the water out of the diffuser and enter back into it when the gas pressure has depleated, you have done the correct thing add a check valve as you dont want water in the solenoid. As for the...
With a tank of 183Litre I would use E.I fertz (these being dry salts) http://www.ukaps.org/index.php?page=dosing-with-dry-salts. As for stocking levels (fish and Shrimps) add those before you add your Co2 gas - I would let your tank settle in before adding the gas.
As for Co2 I would look on...
Rather than testing your water perameter you would be better off purchasing a Glass drop checker and fill with bromide blue solution. This fuild changes colour with the quantity of co2 (PPM) within the water column - low co2 levels blue colouration, high levels of co2 yellow. The ideal colour is...
The top of the ceramic plate become dirty (not the one within the glass tube) - I give mine overnight soak in Morrison or Milton's baby sterilising solution and its clean or just pour some of the solution onto the ceramic plate.

Hi Andrew
I wouldn't know, I will check, but I doubt very much. I have always use a seperate bubble counter situated between the solenoid valve and the diffuser, these are what I considered to be the best - but they are quite dear to purchase...
Hi
All glass diffuser with ceramic plate produce small bubbles - they are cheaper if you buy them from china rather than the UK. I use these and have had not suffered from any problems.

Does the solenoid valve rattle when you shake it as I am thinking the return spring in the valve may be broken. When you blew through the solenoid valve was the valve in the exact same position as it is connect to your reg, if is not, the valve in the assembly may be blocking the flow of gas...

the only thing your going to gain by placing the reactor on the inlet pipe is a reactor full of dirt, if you have co2 bubbles entering the tank you have not got 100% mix and as for the flow from the filter - the reactor is slowly the flow or returning water.

Paul.
i think its the best way of diffusion - been running this way for years now with no problems what so ever.
100% mix of gas within water column.

Hi
Currently running @ 4/5 bsp on 200 litre tank thats heavily planted, so your at 350 litres - you will be add co2 by the bucket load, I would start at 3/4 bsp and have the timer switch the gas on 1 - 1.5 hours before light come on and swictch off 1 hour before the lights go out.
The aim to...

Switch off 45 psi = 3.38 bar & switch on 30 psi = 2.07 bar.
I think that the needle valve is trying or being used to control the high line pressure and it just cannot cope with that pressure so it virtually dumping the gas.
I would assume that the gauge on the left hand side of the...
Hi
What look like white flakes
Its your ferts getting trapped within the DC - DONT worry about it - I some times suffer the same problem and I'm E.I.ing.
Its the nitrogen in the ferts crystalizing.

The above gauge has a recess machined into the portion thats goes into the cylinder, this is where the "O" ring fits. There is no seal within the bore of the reg. just a brass gauze to prevent and debris entering the gauge.
I think you gauge is the newer type with green gauges rather then...
Any picyies of the old style reg + washer - if its got green faced gauges all you need is an "O" ring.
See attached web site for "O" rings.

Never had a problem using tap water always wash my out with water - dry with paper towel then leave it 6 hrs to dry out completely then add my solution.

So if anybody is using an up atomiser, bubble counter, Dennerle Co2 ladder system or any other plastic product the Co2 gas will damage it :eh:

I've just checked mine now - 1.5 bar switch off and I will check tomorrow when its switch on, i would estimate it will be under 1 bar as I am running at 6 bps.

Hi
The co2 gas attacks the properties of airline tubing - you should be using Co2 tubing its stiffer than airline tubing.
As for your reg the bottom gauge is bottle pressure and the top gauge is line pressure, the line pressure will reduce when the reg is on and line pressure can drop below 2...
The only way it to remove the threaded section and replace with a nipple like whats on the right hand side of the solenoid valve. I assume the problem area is the thread section on the left hand side of the solenoid valve.

If you think you have an issue with your mix: example is not changing colour as it should or remaining a solid colour - why not remove the DC from the water coloumn at lights out, stick it on the outside of the tank and check the colouration of the fuild in the morning when you get up - if the...
I had mine + spare of Ebay and they came from China - type in the search box "co2 diffuser spiro" there are plenty but the majority are from China.

Hi
One like this would be a better option: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-Gauge-Ca ... 45fe1c100b

Hi.
I think the problem might be the sealing washer between the reg and the FE bottle, if the supplied washer is made of a nylon based material - then I can understand why its leaking, you need a nitrile washer which will give you a better seal.
Regards
Paul.
Yes - to the above, currently using three (3).
First one is two inches of the substrate on the left hand side
Second is mid water of the right hand side
Third is sub surface at the back.

Hi All
If the return water pipe whether it be a spray bar or lily pipe is situated high or sub surface of the water level and then taking into account the rate of evaporation / poor observation of the water level dropping would induce more water agitation which would vent the residual gas...

Hi Rudedogg
Seems a little quick - but depends on your BPS rate - if you have a high rate of injection is sound about right, i'm currently on about 6 - 7 bps and a 2 kg of gas lasts me about 8 - 10 weeks. JBL regs do not dump gas (well mine don't), so if you want to - let the bottle empty its...
Hixy
If your DC is dark green as you state - some co2 is being mixed within the returning water, if there was no Co2 being mixed the DC would be blue. I would increase you bps and this should change the colour of DC also switch the gas on 1 hour before lights come and switch off 1 hour prior to...
RD1
that good then  - this proves you have the right about of surface distrubance - excessive distrubance the gas would vent from the water column.
Regards
paul.
RD1
Theorically you right - surface movement or excessive rippling induces 02 into the water which is good for the fish - bad for the plants as it vents any residual Co2 from the water column - by the time your light come on the DC are blue in colouration "all the Co2 gas from the previous day...
Hi
To improve the distrubtions of Co2 within the water column you would be better off placing you diffuser directly underneath your glass outlet pipe or to get the most out of your gas place the diffuser underneath the water in take pipe, the tiny bubble will be drawn into the filter with the...
RD1
Its hard to say how much ripple is required! try and aim for a very light shimmer, I surpose you could say that at feeding time if the flake food sinks on its own (no assistance for the feeding fish) it to much - but if it stay on the top and floats around - that about right.

Paul.
Hi Al
Yes - might be an issue using TT filters as the head seals are prone for leaking.
Yes by running an inline difuser within the returning water pipe / spray bar some gas - as a bubble will remain trapped in the spray bar. As for the other method - diffuser underneath spray bar will...

Considering that you are running two filter system it would be advisable to use both diffusers. Using two filters splits your tank into two - one filter for the right side and the other for the left side, place the two diffuser under the spray bars is no problem at all - but you will see a...
Hi
Glad you have now got it working: its hard to say what the bubble rate should be - it depends on how much gas your plants consume, do you have any drop checkers? if so you want to move them around the interior to check the residual levels within the water column, if you tank has a medium...
Hi
If you are using a twin gauge reg a new bottle or FE will show about 50 bar on the left hand gauge (JBL Reg) and the gauge on the right will show line pressure which should be between 1 - 2 bar when switched on and 3 bar when off.

Paul

I have add a quick look at the FE in the screwfix cato. and by releasing the handles it should shut the gas off, sound like the valve is faulty - I would take the FE back to ScrewFix, obviously you'll explain what the problem is - they are usually very good in giving refunds.

Turn you lighting period right down, increase the liquid carbon dosage and purchase a spare bottle.

Hi
Liquid carbon will not change the colour of your DC - the quantity co2 gas within the water column will change the colour of the DC which means that you have lowered the ph value of the residual water.

paul.
Well got to put a peg in the ground somewhere or set a bench mark.
500g @ 2bps should last about 8 - 9 months
2kg - live time.
Stick to 2 kg or bigger bottles or FE's as once you get going with your tank the injection rate will be higher than 2 bps -I started at 2 bps, now I am pumping in...

Guys
The pressure of a new FE or refilled should be showing approx. 50 bar on the gauge, line pressure with solenoid off approx. 2 -3 bar, line pressure with solenoid on approx. 1 - 2 bar - the fast the bps the lower the line pressure. I think that the reg. has been purchase will only show...
Hi All
The white ring is a sealing washer, you can remove the centre portion of the solenoid valve (gas connections) by undoing one pipe connection then slide the other hlaf out of the body of the reg. Here is a picture of the valve connected directly to the reg.

One of the guy's on here had a slight problem, no co2 flowing when switch on - we narrowed the problem down and found out that the gas will flow only one way through the valve - the gas must flow the same as the arrow states.

Hi
Dont worry about the water in the diffuser that normal as for your bubble counter / stop value (have you got them in this order) because the water in the bubble counter is higher than the glass tube within the bubble counter it will always flow back into the stop valve when theie is no gas...
Hi
Always put the inline diffuser on the out going water form the filter unit - if you place it on the incoming water pipe the ceramic plate or tube (in this case) will get clogged up as the filter unit is pulling all the dirt / debris from within the water column.
Regards
paul.
Hi all
Where I have my FE refilled they use a very thick or stout "O" ring - squeeze the handles together and slide to "O" ring over the two handles.

I am sorry to hear about your loss, instinct tells me that you have experience a Co2 dump.
When the pressure within the co2 bottle or F.E is low a cheap regulator cannot recognise the low pressure and dumps the remaining gas within the bottle or F.E into the water column – this is...
