All of them looks cool in differnt ways when close up :)

In both tanks with danio maragaritatus they finished them by now. In the tank with boraras merah they still crowded, but I over feed it in there big time :). Looks like fishes like them :)

Two questions 1. What was weird about it? :)) 2. About largest ones. I guess it is ok - the will eventually die, decompose, whatever :) I mean in my experience it was always ok - nothing wrong from some % not eaten alive :)

I got some live food today. Initially I thought it is daphnia but then I realised it is polyphems :)

This might be just a coincident. When female amano shrimp moulds it produces some pheromones and this forces males amano swim like crazy all around. And possibly forst time adding those plant food caused change in water which triggered female moulding.

Looks like dragonfly larvae... it should be predator but maybe shrimps are to fast for it... If shrimps are not expensive I would leave it in there to observe...

No. That was during water change and at that stage it was still same water. I guess that water flow triggered migration instinct when in nature shrimps climb up the stream

Yes upside down and they swim quite often when there is no fish. As soon as fish appear in the tank the keep down :) now in this tank there are very young odessa barbs so those guys often swim together with fry :)

I am not sure how many fry I have got... maybe 40-100.... will try to count them when they free swimming. I breed them in a tub and then moved to the tank...

I do not see why not. In my understanding they are not migrating fish. so they could live in there for generations...

around rocks. I caught them with normal fish tank net from river coast. It took quite a time though :) the were very few of them and they are faster then my hand with net :)

New ones are too small to be territorial. And they all have same colour... i do no think that 7 out of 7 i caught are all frmales :))

Possibly. But it is eating. But like strike and hide... the new ones normally swim with other fish. I thought it is older and so have already behaviour pattern developed - be careful and afraid of bigger things...

From first three only one survived the first night. But a week ago I caught another 4 smaller size - 1-1.8 cm. And those are fine. So now I have 5 in the tank. But behaviour is very different. The first one is very shy and always hiding, while the new ones are not shy at all!

I caught 3 sticklebacks today for my tank. Wanted them for a long time and finally found them :) Anybody has experience with them? How old are they? Size 3-3.5cm. Are all three females or it is too early for a male to get colours?

what about Ladoga Lake in Russia? Last summer I filmed one pond connected to Ladoga lake - it was full of gammarus like species. Despite Ladoga is quite cold lake this pond was so shallow so should be quite warm on sunny days. And it was full of gammaruses... They are quite big - more then 1...

yes it looks like mine... for some reason I upset that mines are not gammarus :)) they were caught together with asellus in Grand Canal in Ireland... so they must be local species... and yes - I never seen it bigger then 8mm in my tanks. most of them 4-5mm

Does anybody here have experience with Palaemonetes sinensis shrimp? I got four of them from Russian far east and I wander if anybody ever breed them in aquarium... It looks like it need to be in cold season in order to get eggs at spring time... Internet is pretty empty about this species...

there was CO2 catastrophe (soda/citric acid DIY reactor) in November and all fish and shrimps was poisoned and died :( So it was empty for few month and I got proper CO2 system here. At the moment it looks like this: Now I tried to breed tiger barbs in it and there are 5+ fry swimming :)...

update: This tank unglued again in a week after first post. So I bought a second hand 120l for 30 euro and did almost exactly same setup. it looked like that first week of December: now it looks like this: well some plants were added in that time so it is not really all grown itself :)

update: blue gouramis gone to another tank for harassing chocolate gouramis. Chocolate gouramis died anyway for some reason. They are fragile as they wrote about them... 5 dwarf puffers came here from other tank. And one ram fish. and few photos from today sunset:

Just a photo update. No much changes here, still no algae :) 2 weeks ago put few new born danio rerio inside and they seems doing ok slowly growing in same speed as the rest of them in dedicated tank. Difficult to picture them though...

After more then 2 weeks shrimplets still alive and that is good. But they do not grow much - still maximum 2 mm length... Probably the "green water" I bought is not very good for Amanos?

on Sunday bought in the shop sea water phytoplankton and some drops to feed it which they called Gilliard's F-2, and proper sea salt. Also same day got 8 zoes from another shrimp which dropped almost all eggs at that stage. Now it looks like that: water become much greener comparing to sSunday...

I am not sure, probably that is what I need... But delivery cost 27£ is a bit too much :) I will check for it in local aquarium shop - probably they have it :) Just I thought I will get proper green salt water just out of air :) and it seems I got not what needed

Maybe I missed the answer to my question but I am still confused - if I have ADA soil in the tank do I need to add Macro/Micro salts? and if yes - does the dosage changes in comparison to having normal gravel?

Update: after week I got BGA outbreak: Treated it with 3 days blackout, Hydrogen peroxide. Then some hair and beard algae appeard: Plants finally started grow with good speed. as for the fauna so far I got 5 otos, 20 neon tetras, couple of chocolate gouramis, couple of dwarf blue...

have you ever seen them hatching? As I understand they should hatch in fresh water which then should be turn to brackish. In my experience they always drop the eggs before hatching time...

It was recently moved from another tank together with carpet so carpet still recovering. But it was very healthy in previous location but that red plant was the same

I have problem with this plant. Its leaves are melting and it drops leaves. The it makes new branches with new leaves and then again it drops leaves. The light is good, co2 seems to be enough for other plants. So what exactly this plant is and what does it want? :) Is it rotala sp butterfly?

now it is about half year for that jar set-up. It stays at direct sun light all the day - the window looks at south-south-west. No algae problem what so ever! What is "wrong"? :) I just want to have some explanation because it is written everywhere - no direct sun light!

This one was my first tank but last one as for journal :) for now :) It is not really a project, just my first and my biggest tank. With different fishes, 4 amano shrimps, and changing amount of cherry/blue/mixed shrimps which are breading, got eaten, put to other tanks, second/third generation...

update: about a week ago that shrimp committed suicide - run out of the tank - I found it dead on the floor in 2 meters from the tank. Yesterday finally found another berried shrimp and put it in same tank now covered :)

yes, back glass. That was second hand tank. Leaking before, so I fixed it with silicon. It was ok for about 6 months but now left side of back glass came off. Not sure if it is possible to fix it properly. Probably I need to take off that glass completely, clean it from old silicon and attach...
