    Fluval Edge 23l Light Upgrade

I saw someone on Reddit recently who had added a couple of USB lamps to theirs; it actually looks kinda neat. I think they're using this particular lamp, which is all over Amazon, sold under a few different names. Seems to be working pretty well for them.

Is there any way I can dim this particular light?

I have a spare Eheim powerLED that's perfect for a thing I'm working on (large bottle with a kinda small, round opening), except it's way too bright. It has an inline on/offswitch I could possibly replace, but to be honest, I don't understand electricity well enough to know if I could just swap...

What could I plant in a 20 litre bottle that would almost never need trimming?

Thank you both! I'm starting to lean towards a buce only scape, but it's a few weeks till payday now, so I'm sure I'll change my mind a few times before then. The small-handed helper idea is a great one, btw. My seven year old loves her shrimp tank, it's about time she got her hands wet! I...

What could I plant in a 20 litre bottle that would almost never need trimming?

It was an impractical but just too alluring eBay thing; some lab glass that's basically the size and shape of an office water cooler bottle. It has a radius of about 30cm, rounds off at around 40-45cm high, and I can just get my hand and wrist through the neck. I'm hoping to scape and plant it...

    Flow and Floaters

I really don't have a lot of experience, so this might actually be a terrible idea for reasons I hadn't considered, but I found that I had enough flow from my filter to run a short spray bar and a nozzle with a venturi. Takes the flow from the spray bar down a notch, and hopefully oxygenates my...

Hey! Good luck with the tank. I've received a ton of friendly, invaluable advice here. I'm sure you'll have the same experience. : )

Could I get some plant suggestions for this hex tank?

Hey, thanks for the replies! I've actually already ordered a bunch of plants now, which I'll list in a sec, but I'll describe my setup in a little more detail first. UKAPS is so high up on Google rankings, it might help someone out if I describe what I'm working with, what I'm hoping to grow...

Could I get some plant suggestions for this hex tank?

Hi all, So, this is the tank in question; an Aquael Hex 60 litre thing. Initially it's just going to be a new home for my shrimp and snails, but once things have been up and running for a few months, the plan is to keep ten or so otos in there too. I've never had tank larger than 30 litres...

    Green Hair Algae!!!!!

Just a thought, but maybe ghost/glass shrimp would get on better in your tank? Not as pretty as cherries, but your betta might be less likely to find them.

Gas exchange (when your tank is wall-to-wall with floating plants)

Wow, that is a beautiful tank. If I'm ever allowed anything larger, I might try and replicate that. : )

Gas exchange (when your tank is wall-to-wall with floating plants)

Because it looks so coooool... :( Yeah though, I've got a mix of frogbit and salvinia cucullata going on that must be at least as dense a coverage as thick lemna would be. Guess I should scoop out at least a little. Thanks everyone!

Gas exchange (when your tank is wall-to-wall with floating plants)

Yeah, a floaty thing or just cordoning off a bit of tank is probably the way I'd go about clearing some space, but I just don't know if I need to. With an air stone or a venturi, I understand that they work by disrupting the water surface more than injecting gas directly into the water...

Gas exchange (when your tank is wall-to-wall with floating plants)

Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but is it potentially problematic to have a complete coverage of floating plants? I've got good circulation in my small bedside tank, but practically zero water surface. I'm hoping to hear it's fine as I really like how it looks, but I'll be adding some...

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

Maybe Eco-Complete? I was looking at this guide to different substrates, and it seems to be what you're after: decent quality, not crazy expensive, and denser than the other options.

What other hobby's do you have?

It's amazing what some of you can do with your hands! I can't make anything, or play any instruments. I used to be really into Parkour when I was younger, but I'm a bit old for that now (my knees are kind of a mess). I still like to go bouldering sometimes though, and balancing on stuff...

Timescale for adding fish and plants with tropica soil

Maybe hold fire until someone with a bit more experience replies, but I'm sure you can add plants immediately. I'd be very wary of adding anything else so soon though. If it's anything like the ADA or TMC stuff, it'll be leaching ammonia for two or three weeks.

    A bedside garden

No post today. Urgh... I've been thinking about the substrate in the HOBs. My first thought was a bit of actual filter media, topped off with some spare NutraSoil I've got kicking around. Could be be good. Or maybe the first time I turned the filters on, it all just spew out into the tank. I...

I'm sitting around, waiting for the mailman. Hopefully, today I can get started on this little tank I've been thinking over for a few weeks. Water conditioner, is too much a problem? (fairly urgent)

I've finished my old bottle of dechlorinator (one of the Tetra ones), and half way through a water change I've opened my new one, (API Tap Water Conditioner). My problem is I've just noticed the API stuff is roughly 10 times more concentrated. Which is fine, except that with my little tank I'm...

    Low iron glass at 5mm...

...do you reckon it's worthwhile when the glass is so thin? I was thinking about picking up a Mini S whilst they're a bit cheaper at The Green Machine. I'm kinda torn though, as the Do!aqua one is literally half the price. I've not had the opportunity to see low iron glass in person, but I can't...

Help keeping plants wet while waiting for tank

I don't know much, but I can tell you what's worked for me. I've had apple snails uproot newly planted dwarf sag, bacopa 'compact', and eleocharis parvula, and they've all been fine floating on top of the tank for a few days. After noticing that, I've left little plants floating for literally a...

    Eheim MultiBox, a quick review

Doesn't seem to be anything on the forum, so I thought I'd share my take on it. This thing is, for me, a lifesaver . I keep one aquarium, a thirty litre, heavily planted shrimp tank. It's my first ever, and it's been going for about half a year now. It's simultaneously the most relaxing, and...

    Anti-Virus software

Yeah, that's a fair point. I'm using chrome, logged in, and with Facebook open in another tab right now; AVG wouldn't exactly be the only bit of software rolling it's eyes as I do another search for substrate types... Still, all the other stuff keeping tabs on me I can avoid with a bit of fuss...
