Thank you for your reply! I rather stupidly forgot to mention the diffuser I have is an in-line one as is the external heater, they were purchased for the tubing size on the tetra filter so to use them on the APS filter will mean using reducers and possibly Y-Splitters so would all get messy...

Hello everyone, I'm after some advice on how to set things up..... As I've had this empty tank for far too long now! I currently have... 1 x Empty Fluval Roma 240 with 2x39watt T5HO 2 x All Pond Solution 2000 1 x Tetratec EX600 1 x Hydor 300Watt External Heater 1 x Up Aqua Co2 Diffuser 1 x UP...

I should also add I won't be using pure RO water it'll be a mix of tap and RO but I don't want to keep having to goto the fish store to buy RO water lol :p

Because my water isn't very nice TDS normally comes out about 400-440 and don't even get my started on the terrible amount of lime scale deposits that get left everywhere!

I just had this horrible image of my tank looking like a whirlpool lol. With the 2 filters I have I think I can cover most of the length of the tank with the spray bars.... Just not sure if I should have the inlet's and outlet's on opposite sides.

Uhh ohhh I haven't set my tank up yet but I have 2 x All Pond Solution 2000 L/H filters for my 200L tank.... Didn't realise it was 10x manufacturer rating :eek:

It's not the dust it's the horrible perfume they add to it to cover the smell of cat crap :p Personally I wouldn't use it in the cats litter tray either.

£3.20 for 10L at tesco so 30L would cost £9.60 I'd rather do an hour extra at work to cover the difference as it'll take a lot longer than that to rinse the cat litter properly.

I went cheap, I'll probably regret it and end up replacing them in the future but for now they'll do to get my tank up and running I got 2x APS 2000EF UV should give enough flow :)

If you decide to go for cat litter just get plain molar clay, the tesco cat litter is nasty it's very dusty and it's perfumed it took me days to get the horrible smell out of my nose! :confused:

Just thought I'd add something to this I had the same in my old tank and that was using unipac sand so don't think that is it. Mine really appeared when I played around with more light I cleaned the pipes and put the lighting back to normal and it didn't come back.

1) Wouldn't ever touch again The rest.... I live in the UK ;) Thing is say it broke down at 8pm one night if I ordered the part and got lucky it would be here in 2 days time! If I got 2 smaller filters don't worry I'd still be aiming for the 2000LPH mark between them :)

Hmmmmm I hate to admit it but ceg might be right after a lot of digging and testing my EX600 which managed a rather low 200LPH not sure the tetra will be up to the job, so need to look and see if I can modify the cabinet to fit the FX5 if not might have to look at eheim.

My tank is in an alcove there isn't anywhere next to it that it could go.

For a start I couldn't even get the FX5 in my cabinet unless I braced the front and removed the centre section which I really don't want to do.

There are quite a number of reasons I wouldn't get the FX5 I'd rather have 2xTetra EX1200's than a single FX5

Right so as I can't find anything worth the extra money over the EX1200 I'll get one of those and maybe upgrade the smaller ex600 at some point, now I just need to decide on what circulation pump :)

Tempted to get the Tetra EX1200 and run it and the EX600 it's only got a very slightly lower flow rate than the JBL but can get it for about £50 cheaper so not sure yet

An FX5? Maybe a little overkill if I use a pump for the Co2 reactor that'll give more water movement through the tank as well.

Seems I will be going T5 the light unit for the tank had an arcadia blue led bar installed I'm guessing this allowed water into the tombstone as that side isn't working so I'll get a double 39watt T5 ballast :)
