Mine often go for a walk around the rim of the tank, never found one that far away! The Amanos however are often found 15ft away heading for the front door
OK just to be clear you need to fill the drop checker with 4dkh water and a few drops of low range PH reagent, best to rinse it out with 4dkh water too:thumbup:
Have a read of these 2 articles as well...
Setting up a “higher” tech planted tank | UK Aquatic Plant Society
The Estimative Index (EI) Dosing with Dry Salts | UK Aquatic Plant Society
Nutrafin Plant Grow only contains micro nutrients so you will need to start adding macro as well Also make sure your CO2 comes on a couple of hours before the lights come on and off about an hour before lights go off
:)
1368 Litres! if you go hi tech, the mind boggles how much CO2, Ferts and Filtration you will need:what: will be watching with interest and envy :wideyed:
Everyone will have differing ideas on this one, i don't have any surface agitation but i do run an airstone at night as i think both the plants and the fish benefit from this, if you don't want to go to the trouble of setting up an airstone then by all means have some surface agitation 24/7...
As Ed said if you are dosing the water colum correctly most plants will be fine in just plain gravel you could always push a few root tabs in and around the plants as well
Welcome to UKAPS +1 for what Foxfish said and i wouldn't worry about the London water i have it too and i have never found anything that wont grow in it yet:thumbup:
I'm afraid a lot of your advice goes against what some of the more experienced scapers on here would reccomend
Matrix calling Clive, Matrix calling Clive, come in Clive
do they actually make any sales from spamming unrelated websites :?: seems like a waste of their time as well as ours, what's the point :!: :!: :!:  :x
Very cool 8) you can listen to my podcasts on http://www.stompradio.com but there is no aquascaping just lots of Jazz  although i did play a track by a band called Tropical Fish
Cheers George i shall enjoy listening to these
Thanks mate  i'm still being mesmorised by all the great scapes i've been missing  there will be a project fom me soon tho' i'm getting inspired 8)
Hi Everyone, those of you with long memories might remember me :eh: been away for while although i have popped in from time to time to check you are all behaving yourself :D
Once i have taken some time to catch up on all the great scapes that you have all been doing on here i am going to redo...
We should hit 500 members today and i just wanted to shout out a big "WELL DONE" to all that have made UKAPS the UKAPS we love. i know there's a lot more good things to come and many new friends to meet :D without getting to soppy, it has definately changed my life not just my tanks and i'm...
The new Luminaire and the lamps from Lampspecs finally arrived and i have removed a few of the older leaves from my Ozelots in order to let some of the new light onto the younger growth and genrally thin things out a bit.
Also because of the sudden increase in light i have upped the Co2 and...
Of course mate...
Microsorum pteropus
Echinodorus 'Ozelot'
Echinodorus 'Ozelot' (Green)
Echinodorus parviflorus 'Tropica'
Vallisneria americana (natans)
Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya'
Nymphaea (Rubra i think)
Echinodorus bleheri
I think that about covers it :D
The only one i have probelms...
Not a lot it's always so busy when i go in there, but he does seem to love the planted tanks and always asks how UKAPS is doing :) did catch him in his office the other day, he had a coffee in one hand and an Amano book in the other, maybe he is a closet aquascaper trapped in a marine world
Eds is right they seem to love it in the low 20's (although sometimes it will be warmer because we have our central heating up so high  ) but they will need regular water changes to keep up with their increased metabolism, my usual 50% per week seems to be more than enough :)
Thanks i love yours too, i bet the Goldfish love that sand :)
not thought about the next scape yet as the pond feels like a long way off at the moment
Anyone fancy coming to a pond digging party (bring your own shovel)... no i thought not
Thanks, apart from the 5 Goldfish there are 3 big Buenos Aires Tetras (2 of them albinos) expelled from the big tank for plant nipping, 1 Fake Siamensis sentenced to life for bullying and 2 Ottos because it's the law  Oh and not forgetting 3 Nerites.
Thanks for the replies :D
The tank is 80cm X too narrow X too high
pressurised co2
Tetratec 700
very low light (waiting for the new luminaire to be delivered) and then it will be full EI like my other tank :D
Here's a few more pics :)
There was a gravel pathway through the middle...
I've heard a few people lately mention the possibility of mixing plants and Goldfish, here's a bad picture of my goldfish tank, although it does contain a few tropicals that have been banned from my big tank for bad behaviour
if you want to keep Goldfish in a planted tank then the order...
Yeah!...and it's all your fault
Seriously tho' all you guys running UKAPS, PFK and everyone who participates in this forum deserves a round of applause for the way they have all helped, in their own way, to push our beloved hobby forward :D :D :D
Keep it rolling on guys :D
It was a good find mate, the guy in there is a real star
I think i'm going to get them to do me a custom built tank in time for my birthday in May :D
Just had a chance to purchase a load of Redmoor, so i did of course :D i need a couple of bits for my tanks (havn't decided wich ones yet) but i am going to have some spare
A couple of pics...
I think you are all correct, it's about expanding your knowledge of all aquatic plants,
:) the more i grow the more i know :)
If it looks like a healthy specimen and i havn't grown it before then i'm almost duty bound to buy it and try it, that's what i tell the misses anyway everytime i...
I popped into a LFS today to pick up a new bulb for my 120cm, so i walked to the back of the shop, chose my bulb and turned around BUT by the time i had made it to the counter i had... :o
