    The Great British Scape Off

Hey Folks! If you've not already heard, Me, Stu Worral and Mark Goodwin (Geordie Scaper) will be competing against each other in a scape off, up at Finest Aquatics in Widnes on Saturday. So Very Disappointed With Tropica

It wouldn't be financially practical for shops to just stock 1-2-GROW as Tropica only produce 19 1-2-GROW species. They offer over 150 species in the traditional form.

    Lime scale left by evaporation

As the water evaporates the hardness rises. Well, actually it doesn't rise but the calcium doesn't evaporate with the water leaving the same amount of calcium but in less water, this shows a rise in hardness. Does that make sense? The "limescale" you see on the glass are calcium deposits, the...

    Mail order plants

It's a big ask but the good thing about crypts is the amount if energy stored in their roots. This allows then to last out of water for quite some time. Feeding Tetramin flakes/any flakes

It's funny, I keep wild discus, scalare angels, cardinals and rummy nose tetras in my 4x2x2. All of the fish in there are really bold, constantly following me along the tank and they feed like crazy but they simply won't feed from the surface. Surprising from such bold fish... It may not be...

    fluval edge planted/iwagumi tank

Hi, i'd buy some Tropica Plant Nutrition + from TGM when you get the plants. It's nice and easy to use with proven results. I would then seriously look to invest in good CO2, you are really going to struggle to grow HC properly with little light and no CO2, just upping the lighting isn't...

    Carbon and cycling

Hi, what wood are you getting? Carbon won't hurt but it won't help with poisons or toxins that come from so types of wood. It will help with the tannins and after a while it'll become biological media which will become advantageous to your filtration in general.

What to do with my Fluval Edge

Hi, welcome to UKAPS! I've worked on these a few times but never actually owned one. The lights are dull and it's going to be hard to overcome given the location of the light fitting - right in the centre and close to the surface. If it were my tank then i'd aquascape the tank into a "mound"...

Hiya, 25w over 10 gallons is a lot of light! CO2 is a must :( Is there anyway you can block around half of the light? Perhaps cover some of it up with cardboard or similar? I would highly recommend Tropica Plant Nutrition Plus
  31. Dan Crawford

  32. Dan Crawford

    Substrate confusion

If i were you, i'd just use a play sand and dose the water column with fertiliser, simples  Play sand will cost you pence and you'll get no clouding, ammonia spikes or anything. Plants don't need a substrate fertiliser if you dose well.

    Advice/Recommendation To A First-Timer

Hiya, filling with water is a given  There is great debate as to whether or not CO2 is a MUST. To me it is. This often depends on what your planting and how much light you'll be using. Whatever happens, CO2 is a benefit and i would recommend it from the start. Being a beginner...

OK great, the easiest way to do it in my experience is to 1 - Put your chosen substrate in 2 - fill the tank so that the water just covers the substrate and then stop 3 - Plant the tank as heavily as you can, i'd go for covering 80% of the substrate in plants, even if you don't want to plant...

Hi, welcome to UKaps! Aqua Clay is good, if you like the colour. If your on a budget then i'd look to plain 2-3mm gravel and does heavily on the water column. This is hard to answer for me. IMO CO2 is just a must, regardless of what your trying to grow. There are lots of people on here who...
