why dont you just buy a small bag of broken slate from a garden center? You'll never run out in a month of Sundays. Or go to a builders merchant, buy 1 20inch x 10 slate and break that up. You'll get one for a fiver.

The glue method usually is for moss and anubias. Given time, these plants will attach to the chosen hardscape, so when the glue breaks down, the plant is attached naturally

BTW, i've had nearly a ton of lead on ceiling joist.

The one real important factor is, not just to span the weight, which is correct, but put a board underneath the thing...inch ply maybe. Imagine two feet sitting just on floor boards and nothing else....you might not be sure if your on ceiling joists or not.

why not try the low tech route?....I'm having good success with this approach.

The sloping is 'plant' based though right? just because you have 45 front to back or 50 or even 60 for that matter, the more front to back space doesn't mean you have to slope the substrate even more. Sloped substrates are for when your using grass, tennelus etc not stems. it's possible to get...

Regards to lighting this bad boy, I would seriously consider MH. Suspended would look dreamy, and from my recent experience with MH/suspended, growth is awesome, the ripple effect is stunning and I'm sure, not positive, that the plants utilise different parts of the light when suspended. As...

i've found that these 2 products work a treat! the brush gets all the way through the pipe, and JBL's liquid cleaner would strip paint!

you may be aware, this stand carries my 60cm, which is only 36cm deep. I took this into consideration. firstly i've put 150w of MH lighting over a 60. I'm confident in my ability in growing plants, but not that confident. this is where the height comes into play. until i get stable conditions...

well i'm buggered if i'm spending a fortune on lighting stands. i went to homebase bought some bit's and bobs and made my own. i'm still lacking 3 bit's but I'm almost there! (notice the wrong colour fitting) i need feet to the height might need adjusting when my new light arrives tomorrow.

thats not alot is it. i currently have 40cm. i could get a 45cm and extend the stand. depth is more important to me than height. i would love a 120 x 50(d) x 45(h)

70cm, ive gone off the height. after looking at my henge tank i feel i want the same/ similar height (maybe 45cm) but with the 120cm lenght. kinda panoramic feel. also WAY easier to maintain. when i go into my rean to trim etc, i have to put my speedo's on. i got pics somewhere :lol: (joking)...

you see the problem is, i can see a difference between my opti white and rena aquariums. but it's not that bigger difference.of course theres no green tint. now my wife cant see a difference at all, nor can the rest of my family for that matter. my opt for a 10mm float glass aquarium and save...

ok i got a opti white and love it. i want a new 120cm tank but dont want to shell out 400 notes. anyone give a true comparison?

i got one of these it matches my laminate floor. turn the doors the other way though, they look gastly otherwise. mark
