filter advice from shop...is it correct????

I'd still go with the stated model - 1500lph SOUNDS like a lot, but in reality it'll be delivering much below this (as do all filters) and as other members have stated by the time you add on spraybars, co2 diffusers, external heaters etc you'll almost be wishing you;d bought something MORE...

    Noisey Aquamanta EFX 600

The easy answer would be to drop out the bio balls and replace them with something heavier (sintered glass etc) or sponge. Bio Balls are good, but no better than a lot of other filter media. I've got Aquamanta 300 and it is quite a noisy beast. However, in defence of MA, i have also had quite...

Removing media for no livestock tank?

if it's not too late i'd add the media back in. As part of the constant cycle of growth and decay plants release ammonia into the water column so you need the media to deal with that. Hope this helps, M

    New tank filter media

i think clive suggested leaving the carbon in more for it's massive surface area than it's chemical filtration. Having said that if you've found a combination that works for you game on! Matt

    "Stumpy" 17mm glassware inlet?

I find it inconceivable really that the "big" players in filters (eheim, tetratec and the like) aren't supplying the range of intakes/outlets that the market clearly would like. I know planted tanks are a small market, but equally i don't think "normal" aquarists wouldn't be happy with clear...

    "Stumpy" 17mm glassware inlet?

no pics to hand but one halfway house solution is to diy a filter sieve from acrylic then connect to a shortened glass filter intake. I have plans for this in order to completely remove green plastic from my tank!

    Eheim 2213

Hello there, Not sure what you mean by pads? Foam (and if so what grade/density?) or floss? Of course, the finer the grade the moreit needs cleaning. If you want to make it less of an issue stick some filter sponge over your filter intake - this then traps a lot of the mucka nd is much easier...

UPDATED: Eheim Pro 3 2075 Review

Hello mate and welcome! Broadly you can put whatever you like in your filter - it really is down to personal choice! A lot of people on here just run with sintered glass to give maximum surface area whilst maximising flow. Given most 'scapers like to maximise flow this gives a pretty good...

I'm no help with the question but the tank sounds like a bit of a beast! What's kept in it? Matt

    filter suggestions pls

Might be easier to get a second one and run them both. Quite a few pop up second hand on aquarist classifieds. Or you could add a flow pump (eg koralia) to increase flow without that much extra cost Cheers Matt

    Aquamanta EFX300 Review

So... I've been away from UKAPS for a while (kinda had to concentrate on losing 4st in order to give my dad a kidney - now much less fat and a kidney lighter!) but in the time off form work i've got my planting mojo back so it's time for an update! Been using the filter with a sponge pre-filter...

    Aquamanta EFX300 Review

If you're up north at any point they run a 600 on their cichlid display tank at MA South Leeds (just off junctn. 41 M1). I can't guarantee exactly how quiet it was as they have their stock tanks burbling away in the background but it certainly didn't sound like a 747 taking off! Cheers! Matt

    Wabi filtering & heating advise.

or could you insert a false end into the tank (you don't give dimensions but glass wouldn't have to be thick as it'd have equal water pressure on both sides) with blacked out glass to hide a standard heater , lay a small internal down "flat" as it were, and then run tubing out from the filter...

How to get the water clearer!

Internals are often a bit limited in the media you can put in them. If you can fit any filter floss in that should solve most of the problem. Otherwise an external into which you can definitely fit floss and/or graded filter sponges will definitely solve the problem cheers M

flow in my tank is it ok

It kinda is! oily residue is what's released from plants when they're not receiving their optimum nutrients - often due to underdosing of ferts (inc. CO2) or poor flow Matt

The lack of oily residue may also be a very, very good thing - it could indicate that you are delivering nutirents to your plants more effectively! Cheers Matt

Yeah - looked at the Sunsun filters (started a thread on here) somebody reported very poor build quality on them and dodgy flow through the canister itself meaning flow was ok but filtration wasn't! Matt

Hello all, After recent filter problems i decided to shell out some cash on a filter with ~1000lph flow. After much checking of products (and my bank balance) i opted for one of the Maidenhead Aquatics Aquamanta EFX300 http://www.fishkeeper.co.uk/Prodshowroomdetails.aspx?id=255 What really...

Hello all, I'm in the market for a new 1000lph filter (see this thread http://ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=11680) and the Sunsun filters have popped up as an option that isn't too cost heavy http://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/aquar ... 212-0.html Perhaps even the 1400 or 2000lph to make...

    Which 1000lph filter?

    Which 1000lph filter?

Hey all, After fidning that my Eheim 2234 (500lph) wasn't really up to the job in my 57l tank, i swapped it for a Fluval 303 (1000lph) that i got off good ol' eBay a while back. The improved flow is great - plants all over the tank moving much better - but it's noisy as hell. DOes anyone have...

    which filter is best?

Hi there, If you're planting your tank go for the highest turnover you can afford - maybe even look at a second hand external - they're worth the investment in the long run (try Aquarist Classifieds - you can get plenty for £25!). Sponge filters are great, but won't give a high enough turnover...

    Optimal arrangement to maximize flow

Like Dave says, only you can answer that really. Normal thought would be to fit your filteroutlet with a spray bar and then blast the flow across from the back of the tank into and then down the front glass, with your powerheads fitted to the rear glass in the same arrangement. The aim is to...

    Filter materials

Good point well made Sam - i often question the ethics of some aquarist stuff (Altum angels are a typical example - i know they're beautiful, but the massive mortality rates on imports means aquarists are unintentionally killing loads of fish so they can have a pretty tank) and it's nice to see...

    Filter materials

Sintered glass (SintoMec) is by far the best for biofiltration - MASSIVE surface area for bacterial colonisation. if you're having problems with tannin stained water add some carbon, otherwise you get great results using sintered glass through all filter trays hope this helps, Matt

    Small particles in the water

Acitvated carbon is the usual recommendation for removing colour and either floss or fine filter sponge should remove the particles. I've never tried it but i'd have thought that cotton wool (from the pharmacy) would beocme too waterlogged and impede flow Cheers! Matt

  39. B

    Eheim 2080 spray bars etc

If you can seed the new filter with some mature media it will help. Even then i'd run both filters side by side for at least 8 weeks as the bio-load on the new external will be lower than you might expect as the water is effectively "double filtered". Hope this helps! Matt

    external filter ?

hi there, my numbers work it out at being 81 litres. Therefore, if you use the 10x rating, you'll be looking at AT LEAST 810lph pumping capacity, so i think the 205 might be a litlle small. i've got both fluval and eheim filters (all bought second hand) and i'm really happy with them both. I...
