Hi Jason is there any way you you can hang the light from the ceiling, 4" probably won't be that noticeable.

    Am i being to cautious

well to be honest the 120 ltr tank is just an experiment, if i can get it to work I'll be doing a whole strip and rebuild on my 7' X 2' X 2' new stand new light lay out, filters, and plant layout. the whole things a bit sorry for itself since i got the hump with wasting time, money, and pulling...

    Am i being to cautious

I'll just leave it alone then. I wasn't sure if 500mm away for the lights was a bit extreme thats all. If its still done nothing much by Christmas maybe ill start lowering them a bit. thanks Alastair moneys mainly the reason i didn't buy a designer substrate. i tried cat litter last time i...

    Am i being to cautious

yep just sand, i was under the impression that sand was ok as long as water column dosing was good. plants are pogostemon glossostigma elatinoides myriophyllum mattogrossense marsilea hirsuta staurogyne repens Vallisneria Americana no scape just spread evenly to see what grows.

    lighting a deep tank ?

Hi ben welcome along. That's a lot of light mate even for a very deep tank. You might be better off with t8 tubes for no c02 low maintenance route or or t5 if you want a c02 high mantinace tank

    going low tec

I've decided I'm going to go low tec with my large tank 7'x2'x2'. reason for going low tec are 3 hours of maintenance every Saturday are getting a bit much, the cost of gas just went up again the thing causes me more stress than i can be bothered with. and even doing every thing by the the book...

To buy cheap or expensive T5's

3 wpg is a huge amount with t5s when you say "I am running some cheap ones and I didn't have great success with them" what do you mean i doubt lack of light is to blame. what's you flow like needs to be high with that kind of light .

    6w/gal Light on 30min

its a long time since i reed it but im sure some where in the ei sticky its says 6wpg is maximum lighting and the EI mix is the fert level that worked under those conditions with that and you can go down to suit your needs but the base for ei is the most your plants will ever need because you...

    6w/gal Light on 30min

i think in there you could run 6 wpg for 8 hours per day thats what EI is for unlimited lighting you would just need to build up to it slowly do %50 water change a week have you co2 spot on and Hugh amount of flow but unless you an expert and growing plants to sell why bother you'd be balancing...
