You ever tried ordering 20kg off ebay? I say that because i must of ordered over 120kg since xmas and every box i get through never disappoints me. Get some great bits. I know you can't Choose but its usually pretty good Paulo. It needs scrub though!

I forgot to mention, ady is right, when I planned to have certain shrimp I opted to buy some of EBI gold shrimp substrate as this if claimed to keep water parameters a little more stable for the shrimp :-) I'm not sure what Clive thinks of this though?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
If that is all your keeping then it's a waste of money buying soils, anubias plants will be attached to woods and rock above the substrate and not buried so there is no real need for the soil.
However people do like to use it as a beginner substrate as it gives more options if u decide to...
The spring scissors are smaller than my hand and are my Bible, they get to stems I would never ever be able to reach around rock and wood etc. very very handy indeed. The curve scissors I use for my Riccia carpet, just makes life easier on the wrist. The straight scissors are good for general...
Umm I can find out Mate I'll get back to u when I'm home tonight. I know there cheap and not as good but even if they broke every 3 months you would still only paying 3.80 or what ever it is for some tweezers every few months. and not really worry about miss treating them. Who knows. I'm a...
You can but 25cm stainless steel straight tweezers, angled tweezers, straight scissors, curved scissors and spring scissors on Ebay for less than 5 quid each :-)

I'm thinking the same? Tropica plants are tropica plants right? So would it matter where they are bought from? I mean the 1-2 grow pots.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Sure can, your plant selection is seeming like a low tech set up. crypts dont like loads of lighting, they are generally shade plants so this is ideal. As for anubia they also grow very well in low tech. So no need for co2 of any form or fertz IMO. The fertz is of course your choice. If...
I think the encouragement from a positive comment helps just as much. It takes a lot of courage for a begginer to post photos up of their hard worked tank and it really pays off when you get people commenting, even if it is just 'nice one looks really great' this is all part of the encouragement...
If u can get them to order you in tropica plants and you picked them up the day they arrived, before pets at home had their wicked way with them, I reckon they would be pretty damn decent to be honest, I may enquire at my local!

I would never recommend anything longer than a one weekly water change, don't say that to loud or you could have green peace on the phone :) I sometimes do it 2ce a week if I have over dosed on fertz
No you could start out like this yes, it's claimed to destroy Riccia but I have seen no signs of this 4 months down the line. If u keep to high water changes I can't see this bring an issue..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
not sure how you managed to quote yourself lol... but yeah I had these in a nano for about 6-7 months and then sold it, 3 months down the line the lad still has the mesh pads in so nothing was dangerous. They only started to rust as I cut them up to fit my scape, so maybe you didn't cut them up...
Again just to clarify, mine were suggested to rust and it was confirmed that this would not harm anything due to such small amounts in the tanks :-) but of course it's always best to get the best .
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Ha ha cheers nath. About 4 months too late on that one ;-) I have not had to bad results this time round actually. I was worried about shrimp but this wouldn't effect them as such. I'll have to have a re read of my nano journal, sure it's in there somewhere. Cheers for the heads up though. I'll...
Thanks Mate, and as for grade yeah exactly, your right. My buyer claimed they were full stainless steel, that's what I mean u get a lot of that on Ebay. But hey ho. Not damaged my tanks as of yet
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
There not stainless steel mate, this is the issue I had. They say tgey are but then they rust. Massive talk on my journal but they seem coated in zinc or something. I got major rust and was worries about the effects on my water as I needed about 20 sheets.. But everything was kinds left at the...
I assume they are yes, I had a big discussion about these grid pads in my nano journal underneath. We came to the conclusion that it was not harmful as for tying Riccia I simply used netting to attach the Riccia to the grids and then tied it together using fish line.

I also use this frosted glass film :) I got it on my triptych below.. with my blue and white lighting it really works well I must say, I would like to try black next time though.
Check out my triptych Mate, I have carpeted my whole 3ft tank for about 3-4 months now. But I trim once a week. I must say the more I trim the more beautiful and fluffy it gets. I don't regret using Riccia if that helps
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Remember Riccia is very high maintainance if your planning on covering a large area. It's also fiddly to pick out of your tank if you have lots of stem plants. Bene is right though. It's a great fun easy plant. Just likes a lot of attention!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Set your sights on something else I'm afraid. Cuba may survive in a low tech tank for a whole but definitely won't carpet in a low tech. U can dose Fertz and liquid carbon but then this ultimately makes it a high tech tank. All carpet plants will struggle in a low tech. U could use mosses or...
I second that. I had a 30cm walstad jungle cube for about 6 months, successfully sold it and the new owner still has it running. Look at my jungle nano. They definitely work with jungle themes that for sure.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I got some of these but different style, but it's just hassle, worried about snapping my pipes with the pressure put on from pushing the cleaner down, think I'll adapt to slitting the pipe slightly like Ian said. I don't think 45cm is long enough but then I guess u can clean it from both ends so...
It's a scary process lol the last thing I wanna do is break the glass :-( guess hot water and patience will be my first try. Then I'll try the ADA tip :-)

Anyone got any advice about detaching the clear tubing from a glass lily pipe in order to clean u
It? Rather than just cutting of the pipe and,the base and loosing done, piping? My clear tubing is very tight indeed.

Sorry to hear the light units not as good as you hoped mate! thats a shame! I guess these things come down to preference.. I dont think your plants on the other hand will suffer from having less light. How is the light distributed? is the whole tank covered?
As for your liquid co2, you can...
Hi Mate,
Your lighting is best to start low. It sounds fine. Especially if your adding co2 u can afford to keep it low. And if u need more Increase it. Doing it the otherwise round can cause issues. I would recommend if u are starting a co2 Kit do it from the very beginning as certain plants...
Re: Aquarium rescape help
Riccia is a great carpet plant... if you have the time and patience to maintain it. Unfortunately with riccia fluitans it is a floating plant so its main aim in life is to float! ;) the good thing about this plant is its a very fast grower with an amazingly bright...
Im not too sure where Poseidon's get their workings from. google him and private message him asking. Im sure he will be more than happy to help. If you go onto his website it supplies you with a calculator you can see for yourself all the stress loads and volumes etc :) not a 45cm cube...
Yeah I have used this for a year. its great stuff. I would advise you boil a litre of water and then leave to cool down, just to clean it further. then mix with the powder. I use a empty washed out milk bottle and then use the lid to dose :)
IMO 10mm glass for a 450mm cube is incredibly overkill and this is how they charge more. I wouldn't think twice about building with 6mm glass. I can see your worry I truly can. A very reputable company explain u need something and it's in our best interest to listen. I also don't believe their...
Oh sorry garuf just saw your post. My step dad is a Glazier, had been for 20 years, also has been in the tank building industry for about 10. I also triple check using poseidons calculator and another calculator method my stepdad used. Poseidons tanks are beautiful and I know he has been around...
ok so quite a shallow tank. I think its definitely going for a low wattage light then. lok on www.tankscape.co.uk they got some great stuff. I wouldn't get anything bigger than 11w IMO
Yeah as seen it does depend on height as a main value. I said earlier u will be fine at 6mm for a 45mm cube. :-) this is very safe and it means I can sell 450mm cubes for only 95 pound so everybody is a winner ;-)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I think if your worried you can use 8mm for a 450 cube but 10mm is definitely over kill. I think all glass is pushed up a size to cover the unfortunates. Glass thicknesses are determined by the height of the tanks generally. You can build a 30cm cube in 4mm glass so it makes no sense to up it by...
That's not true garuf. I build 600x45x45 tanks with 8mm and could easily get away with 6mm. I do my 450 cubes at 6mm too and their safe as houses ;-)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I order my glass in and build custom optiwhite tanks and there is no way even I could get 15mm glass cut and sanded of that size for around 100 quid. I would be paying more as I would need to get that thicknesses specifically for that job, and so would other builders. On the contrary you could...
Yeah u should be able to just snip it and it should be fine in s couple of weeks. Where id it planted? Anubias are usually very Hardy indeed. Great plants in my eyes
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Is it the whole rhizome or just the end stretch? U can cut it with a knife if your careful or if your confident snap with your hand at one of the bulks of the rhizome. Can u get a photo?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I too have actually found a few versions for free through non illegal sites etc. I think some are actually given out as example reads for potential subscribers. There actually seem to be a fair few u can EASILY get. And these are not through the likes of uTOrrent etc.

They all do the same thing Mate regardless of make/brand/price. As long as they are what they say they are. Try easy carbo-easy life.

I think your getting slightly confused if I'm reading right.. The argument is the more light u force into the tank, the more co2 u need to balance it with. You say you have no co2. When reducing light this doesn't ultimately increase co2, co2 can't be increased if there is none in the tank...

I would choose nothing but ei Fertz.. Why?.. Because I can buy a litres worth of lush mix off Ebay for about 6 quid.. And yes my plants are thriving. I agree it's all propaganda. They all have the same ingredients. That's why their Fertz. I have seen some excellent scapes that have been created...
I actually agree with antipofish on some of what he is saying... I built my cabinet and my tank and compared to whole set up prices I saved hundreds.. if you do think about an optiwhite tank let me know because I can get the glass for you to build yourself or I can build it for you. usually it...
Manrock is right.. I have 3 types of substrates in different tanks. I have EBI gold substrate capping my ADA amozonia in my shrimp tanks. I have ADA amazonia in another on its own and I have bonsai akadama with Irish peat moss and john innes no.3 compost. All working very well indeed :-). So its...
Sounds lime you got a decent set up their pal. I have to free with man rock though. Lighting is way to high. I'm only going on my tanks requirements when I had high tech and co2 but I had 3x 21w t5's and that was close enough to maximum lighting.. but don't worry all you have to do is take a...
This FAO ceg...
Can I just ask what your background is? I'm just dying to know what do in life fella? Who the hell are u! When I read your posts I need to reed them a fair few times but damn once I have grasped it it's a better lesson than anywhere ever. I have truly never met such a...
