Opinions and help with 80cm 'scape

By the way you've arranged the wood, I'm guessing you're going for triangular layout from the left, leading to a meadow style front and right side? Think zig has it right with the two main branches. Separate and angle away. The three branches at the back seem like they may get lost in the...

    60cm ideas. trees and path

Thanks all for the comments. I love that 'scape. This actually started out as a bit of a carbon copy of that Jurassic tank once i added the wood and i gradually added the path and tweaked it a little. The planting should end up being pretty similar. Thank you George. The 'tree' pieces were a...

    60cm ideas. trees and path

Ha! Thank you Sir. But it's all mine! I think I am just going to go for it. It's a good size that if I decide to change the rocks around a bit, a couple of water changes will sort out any possible algae issues I may be worried about. Glad some of you like it, it's my first real, asian style...

Great finds. Thats the sort of ideas i was going for, but with a CAU, ADA cleanliness to it... hopefully.

    60cm ideas. trees and path

HA! yeah i'd like to, but i know the layout can be better. The Largest stone on the left is bugging me a little. The wood cross section just to the right of it is going to be the focus point, but the stone is distracting from it. Sure i could probably tone it down with the planting but would...

Changed a small detail of it earlier today... The right side rock mound. Honestly guys, would like your opinions on how to better this. Know there is a wealth of knowledge and ideas here.

    60cm ideas. trees and path

Well i've got some ideas flowing for a 2ft tank i've had laying around. Pics taken on iphone so don't expect too much. The look im going to go for is a dense forest with a lovely insanely clean sand path running down the off-centre. Plants im thinking is mosses and low level planting, some...

    Sharp sand?

Yeh i figured it would be a pain to wash. its just ive had some laying around since i did my patio and it been pelted down from rain for months and looks great with the stones. just like a river bed. Really dont like the look of play sand in a nature aquarium.... too fine. Just did'nt want to...

    Sharp sand?

Hey people, Sure i have read about not using sharp sand in an aquarium before, but only if there are sand sifting fauna in the tank (corydoras etc) If it were washed, could it be used in an aquarium as a foreground?

    Who's entering ADA IAPLC 2009?

Was on course to enter but last week my regulator messed up big time, killed all my fish and now im growing some superb examples of algae. Good luck to those who enter.

    Here is the proof...

Just whats happened to me :x Reckon ADA is out the window for me, but with a it of luck, AGA will feature a jay tank. I've found that cranking up the co2 helps get rid of spirogyra in quick time. Good luck fella.

    60cm Iwagumi

I actually like the sand right down to the left corner, like the path is coming from somewhere. I'm going to definitely use some nice bushy stems in this tank, hopefully make the two main "path" rocks look less imposing. and maybe some HC or UG on the sides of the path planted in the gravel...

    60cm Iwagumi

Well i've decided to give the rock stuff a try. I've had this funny looking fossilised wood laying around for a while now, its not like that top notch Green machine stuff... more like the stone from some of the 'scapes in Nature Aquarium World books.. Planting wise, its going to be fairly...

120cm - The Crypt Eternal (preview)

Re: 120cm, 370 litre preview Got PFK today, lovely harscape, and the step by step makes our hobby look all too easy 8) Bet it looks great with the balansae growing in. Read you're using EasyCarbo for carbon. Just wondering about surface agitation when using liquid carbon. Seeing as it's in...

    Is this wood safe?

Boil it a few times and strip the bark. If you have a container and spare heater hany, then you can leave the wood in hot water for a couple of weeks, see if it leeches anything nasty. Personally, I wouldn't really trust it. Looks very spongy in the middle.

120cm - The Crypt Eternal (preview)

Re: 120cm, 370 litre preview Really lovely colours, natural. I'm groing more and more fond of fossilized wood everytime I look at it, which is good since 've got a ton of it in my dining room  So no Co2? Liquid carbon? Crypts look lush.

A mix of gravel + sand in tank

As already said, when done right it looks excellent. If you have shrimp or ground dwelling fish (corys, loaches) then try not to over do it with the finer gravel because they will roll them about and turn t into a mess. Check out some 'scapes on CreativeAquascapeUnion. Real good stuff.

    60cm makes a comeback

That rock positioning is superb fella! The 'grain' of the rocks make them seem as though they are connected as one larger piece under the ground.

    Redmoor wood

The thing with redmoor is that it's usually pretty light, comparable to the size of the piece, so the price per kilo is hiked up. You see two pieces, same sort of size, but one is about £17 and the other about £45. I can pretty much guarantee that the £17 one is going to float.

    New scape in the works.

Nothing against ADA or the people that are selling their wood, but I have found you can get the same great results with the branchy, thick, dark wood that is in almost every Maidenhead Aquatics lately. I'm using it and Mark has some great big lumps he's going to be using in his 120cm. Check it...

    Mountainscape V2

I would have thought 10x filtration being quite a hindrance to this scape, maybe uprooting the HC or making it grow in an awkward position?

    Mountainscape V2

This is quite amazing, and very insightful. The set up for the photography is so advanced but with this thread, seems achievable even for a novice like me. Thank you very much Peter. :) And I love this pic.... that room is AAALLLL about the tank

What's your most favourite aquascape of all time?

Started looking through Nature Aquarium Book 3 in my local MA a couple of years ago and brought it. The moss/java fern/balansae tank with the dozen altum angels... stunning. An amazing tank with easy plants.

Aquascaping discussion - fast, slow and styles

I am new to forum based planted aquarium discussions, to be honest I never knew they were around until last year! All I ever knew of aquascapes were Amano's books and I feel these are still my main source of inspiration. The newer ADA styles seem very stark to me, too clinical, as I've grown...
