    chocoloate gourami and highgrade CRS

Will read through the seriously fishy guide it was not one I had seen and most put Choco temps much higher but that helps but doesn't put me off my plan for tank in the study though just don't tell the better half the temps are more compatible than I originally thought. ;). chocoloate gourami and highgrade CRS

my xmas project is to sort my kitchen tank out and get some chocos (Sphaerichthys osphromenoides) . As the current tank in the kitchen hosts 40-50 high grade CRS/CBS / taiwan bee and given the chocos need 26/27c has anyone successfully kept the 2 together and bred both in the same tank? It will...

    Warm water from the tap

I've used water warmed and much lower temp than the tank water and never seen an issue. Yes declorinate if using tap but 10-20% water changes with cold water have triggered breeding in my tanks before now....

    Why????

Jose, Apols if you have already read this but this maybe worth a read if not. http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/a-guide-to-crystal-red-shrimp.19724/ Whilst it's crs specific the principles are the same.

    Why????

Jose Think you may have called some of the reasons. Never had shrimp in water that hard but sure someone on here will have more experience than me in that department. Do you have a tds figure? I would try adding some food, blanched nettles, algae wafers or any sinking food. Do you really need...

    What is killing my shrimps?

Agree with Darrel. I lost hundreds 2 years ago which stopped late spring having been left with just 4.... I noticed last year that tds dropped to 70 over winter. I now re-mineralise to at least 130 using salty shrimp. The stuff on the face could have been moult it couldn't rid itself of. I...

    Cherry Shrimp Not Breeding?

if you drop the carbon you are likely to bring in other algae issues so if you really want to go down that route then would reduce use first rather than drop it all together. you don't say how much you are dosing of the carbon but most tend to slightly under dose than over dose when in with...

Sakura Deaths - Confidence to build up a colony knocked a bit

Agree all look good to me. I have found that shrimps can lose colour when under stress. If you have noticed a change in colour have you changed anything in the tank at all? I have also noted that shrimp lose colour when moulted and moving into the berried state. Ps what's that substrate? its...

+1 I had never got round to buying mesh etc. did have sponge and a zip tie knocking about in the house so used that yesterday. Will see whether any sneak in now.....found 2 more in there when I was cleaning out the filter.
  26. nduli

    What has eaten my cherries?

Out of the fish most likely to be tetras. However they could have died for a variety of reasons and cleaned up by the fish and other shrimp. The shrimp will consume dead shrimp very quickly. I'd look at other factors first like stress, bacterial infection or water quality issues.

+ 1 for most of the stuff above. you can get tanks much smaller and you will see very successful tanks as low as 30L or less with internal, HOB or external filters, just make sure shrimp can't get into the filter and stay ontop of maintenance of filters and water changes the smaller the tank...

    Shrimp safe filter?

Don't go without a filter. You'll impact the shrimps health one way or another. If you want totally shrimp safe then air driven a good choice. Used by breeders and are effective. They won't help plants tho as pointed out above. Fine with moss.....

My Cherry Shrimp Need Your Help..

Agreed copper not the issue. Ph can come down a little. Catappa leaves or alder cones off eBay. Add O2 if you can via air stone. Possibly look at adding some cuttlebone ( calcium) or gh booster (salty shrimp) Check tds if you can. Sure you'll solve it.

    setting up shrimp tank

Lisa They might be ok with the flake (I've never tried it myself) but what shrimp need are things they need for their shells/skeletons to grow and moult (shrimps grow by moulting) so I'd suggest you do get some specific shrimp food. Hikari and gemchem are ones I have used successfully. See...
