Hi guys has anyone come across any decent plans for a stand? I have of course Googled but most of the plans I find are over complicated. I just want to make something fairly basic to hold a 40cm cube. Doesn't need to be anything special, just strong solid wood possibly with a shelf.

I have an assassin too, I've no idea how many they actually chomp through but the population does seem to have slowed. I don't think you can ever completely rid them. I've not experienced it bother any shrimp. I actually saw a shrimp sitting on its back earlier :D

That just sounds like air in the system hitting the impeller. It will probably quieten down in a few days.

Presumably a bit of trial and error over time. I'd start low and work up but low tech you're not going to need a massive amount of light, see how the plants react and get a balance.

I would trim them back, it will help the rest of the plant to flourish.

How are the plants doing? Presumably they struggled / didn't grow as fast without Co2, which has let the algae creep in.

That's a lot of filtration :D I too was doing weekly water changes and went down to fortnightly. I have seen no issues, no algae buildup, water chemistry is fine so the fish are happy. So long as you're filtered well and not overstocked its fine.

If its like a film that comes off easy it could be cyanobacteria, I get it when I leave my blinds open and the sunlight hits the tank.

Does anyone know of any small external heaters? I am in need of a new heater for my 55L and would rather go external. But all the ones I find are a minimum of 200W which is a little excessive for a small tank. If there are none what internal ones do you guys recommend? :)

I managed to pretty much completely get rid of my cyno. All I did was close the blinds. Touch of natural light was enough to trigger it. Maybe applies in your case?

Excellent thanks for the reply. My leaves were starting to look a little deficient so wanted to compare dosage to a similar setup. Have been dosing colombo carbon 2ml daily and colombo fert 1ml three times a week. Will up the fert and see how I get on.

Quick question here, I use Tropica aquarium substrate with gravel on top and was just relocating a few plants. Obviously when you gently pull the plants out the root inevitably pulls up some of the Tropica substrate that the root system has latched on to. I don't like the substrate coming up...
