standard APS filters all come with the surface skimmer. unfortunately they sit to far down the pipe to be useful as they'er always under the water level (unless you only half filll the tank) and they float off their sliders making them useless. You can remove that section of the outflow pipe...

courgette and cucumber and tetra prima put a fresh piece in every day until he starts taking it readily. he's probably a little grumpy from the move to a new tank may not eat for a couple of days until he's settled in. you can also try rubbing garlic into it to encourage him to take it though...

don't get your hopes up for ever seeing the plec leopard frogs tend to only come out at night with all lights out and scarper as soon as they see your shadow a friend who has a breeding group has 10 in his tank and if you can see 1 of them its a miracle.

Today I did a complete stripdown and redo of my 3 foot albino long fin bristlenose tank. Started at 9am finished about an hour ago. It looked like this before and now it looks like this I'm nackered and I've got the 7 footer to do in a couple of weeks once the builders have finished :(

yes you do! you should ALWAYS add ferts of some description unless you're going down the bucket of mud route. EI is the cheapest solution however a premixed EI all in one (like from APF one of our sponsors here) is more than good enough and still very cheap think i spend about 3 every 2-3 months...

I'll support Darrel here. If there's any livestock in the tanks then at least a once a week water change is vital. This no water change nonesense is exactly that nonesense

any plants that are above the water level won't benefit/need co2 so keep your water level lower and just allow them all to take their co2 from the atmosphere

take a look at what the reefers do with the built in "sump" system on these little tanks you can modify them quite heavily to get better filtration + heater in the back out the way and a larger outflow pump to get flow rate up

APF do an all in one where you just add water its basically a premixed EI contains trace and macro so you're good to go it doesn't get any simpler than that and more to the point its cheap :)

use gravel not playsand for the cap otherwise the sand and mud will mix up and end up horrible

few cardinals or harlequins perhaps both should be shrimp safe

it should be ok but thats not to say they'll get all the minerals they need to grow that depends on whats in your tap water to start with. I don't get why your adverse to putting a basic fert in once a day it takes 2 seconds and does no harm (co2 is not needed) almost all low tech setups still...

you can start using an all in one fert no problems for a tank that size you'll want to put 5-10ml a day and change at least 50% of the water during the week be that as one large chunk or as lots of littler chunks. one of our sponsors on here APF does a good all in one will cost you like £8 for...

l128's are no problem to keep as long as your not high ph/very hard water and if you're injecting co2 into your tank it'll bring your ph down anyway so it'll be just fine it will however eat most of your plants as will a BN :)

i quite like it though for a tank that size you could go alot more dense with the planting

use a blowtorch to smooth off the edges of the poly to make them more smooth mountains rather than sharp cliffs (at least if you want smooth hill look rather than cliffs)

Re: First ever tank danios are top column fish so they'll always swim near the surface more than at the bottom they like to be in groups of 6 or more because they shoal but they should be fine. I'm assuming you're doing regular water changes ?
