    I-phone timelapse

Since looking at your stuff and then I got to see Phillip Bloom's stuff as well, I really enjoy watching the things he does. The joke time lapse thing was hilarious and I love his attitude, there's a great one where just him and his mate visit this office and wind up the owner with a british...

If you like HC, you will love this!

I agree, and what's really interesting is there is a style there, there is some kind of thought process happening and pushing the boundaries, you can tell the different layouts from different periods for example. I've got that book "Glass no Naka no Daishizen" Takashi Amano's complete works...

Helloooo, What do you guys think of this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-MANFROTTO-190 ... 2ead0b1ef8 I've got a Manfrotto tripod at the moment but it's not too good, it's really for compact cameras and I find it wiggles around too much. Is it better to go for a ball head...

    Dead camera what to get?

Yeah agreed Tom. Good stuff. I've ended up getting a D90, been testing it over the weekend and it's pretty cool I think. I'm using my 35mm 1.8 on it only at the moment and it seems really good. The images I've got from it so far look better than the D40, not dramatically just more...'punchy' I...

    Dead camera what to get?

The camera itself the D40 is behaving very oddly, basically when you try to fire the shutter the mirror at first wouldn't move, so I did a mirror lockup to see what it did and it did move but is now just stuck in place, I fire the shutter and I just hear faint click but nothing. It's been a...

    Dead camera what to get?

You should deffo get a 5D Mk2 George you deserve one. You owe it to yourself! One of the guys at work is a wedding photographer and has a M2 and 5D as a backup, plus 24-70L and 70-200L that is some serious outlay on kit! The photography in PFK would be very interesting looking forward to that.
  15. oldwhitewood

    Dead camera what to get?

Yeahhhh but then how many shots would you take if you were using film and not a big memory card which can store loads of shots? It's true what they say film does slow you down and you spend a lot of time taking the right kind of shots, rather than just shooting willy nilly at anything (although...

    Dead camera what to get?

I know what you mean using my rangefinder has been a very liberating experience, you just have a dial for shutter speed, aperture and focus on the lens, bit of AE lock, bit of exposure comp on it and aperture priority and that's it really, I mean it's film but that does make it a whole lot...

    Dead camera what to get?

Solid advice guys thanks  George is right the HD video is something which interests me a lot although I've read it can be a bit tricky to film with. I really liked using my D40 but I kinda feel I want a bit more from a DSLR now on the techie side, truth be told I want a top LCD...

    Dead camera what to get?

It would yes I can't use things without a viewfinder, the EP-1 just gets in there because of the hotshoe mounted opitcal viewfinder for the 17mm 4/3rds lens, it wouldn't give me any information just be something to compose with. That would be an issue against it IMHO.
  20. oldwhitewood

    Dead camera what to get?

Hey guys, My beloved Nikon D40 has bitten the dust this weekend care of the concrete outside my apartment! I'm looking to replace the body with something better and was thinking about the D90. Summer evening walk.

I'd by no means call myself that good a photographer but I found when I stuck to using prime lenses it really helped with composing shots and also moving around, getting in close to stuff etc. Often I guess limiting yourself forces you to get better. I still love the 50mm prime I have but...

Any such thing as a descent compact camera?

I'd get a G10, I think it's more the fact it has an optical viewfinder, I really couldn't use a compact without one. Advice on a camera...

  45. oldwhitewood

    Advice on a camera...

Also bear in mind the kit lens at 55mm will focus VERY closely to the subject, I use it all the time now since I sold my 28mm prime. So you might get away with not needing a macro lens for the time being. Isn't this new D5000 out soon? That might be similarly priced but bear in mind you can...

Hey guys, does anyone know much about post processing digitally for black and white images. I took this picture recently and tweaked a few things in Lightroom and have got the below image. Problem is I don't know much about B&W and am not sure if this is maybe too much, too contrasty. There...

It's fine to post process and adjust WB settings, saturation, cropping, straigthening etc all you are doing is what a lab would have done with film anyway. best budget camera

The 55-200mm vr is really cheap on ebay now, about £130. I found though you would stuggle with 200mm for birding and wildlife etc unless you are getting really close.
  59. oldwhitewood

    best budget camera

I use a D40 and love it, but beware if you like autofocus on your lenses as it will only work with the newer AF-S lenses. I wish Nikon would bring out a new 50mm AF-S 1.4 with VR, they should do that! I use some other nikkor prime lenses which are manual focus (fine) and they are good, so all in...

    New lens for Canon

If it's the nikkor one the f1.8 I have heard that called the nifty fifty, the canon one I have seen too and seems very cheap, you should certainly get one! I'm after a nikkor 50mm f1.4 at the moment that is meant to be really nice but is around £180
  62. oldwhitewood

    Difference?

The 50mm f1.8 will be good quality, don't let the price put you off. You just need to know how to use it to get the best out of it. Shoot with it at F4 and you'll find it to be really sharp.
  63. oldwhitewood

The Quest for the Perfect Picture

Me again. Does anyone have any opinons on Tripods? I've been using a jessops one I borrowed recently but I find it really heavy and cumbersome and quite unwieldy to use. Decent bag

Hey Joe, which seller was it? Was it from China?
  68. oldwhitewood

    Decent bag

They are high quality yeah, that's true. I think I might have to go for the more expensive version which has the all weather function, it will be no good if my gear gets soaked so it's probably worth the investment.
  69. oldwhitewood

Thats the one deffo, they aren't cheap though I can only find them for about £50 on ebay.

Fascinating pictures George, really interesting. And there's me watching programmes about the S.A.S and getting really into them, brings home the reality of it really when you see these images. Decent bag

Can anyone recommend a decent bag to carry a DSLR with lens attached and 2 other lens? The ability to hang a tripod off it too would be nice. At the moment I use a Lowepro slingshot but I don't like it, too uncomfortable.
  72. oldwhitewood

    Full Frame Photography!

Yeah you are right. I'm not aiming these comments directly at you you must understand, I'm not that kind of person. It's just I find the subject really interesting and I'm fascinated to read peoples opinions on gear and how it affects them as a photographer.
  73. oldwhitewood

    Full Frame Photography!

It isn't no. To my mind you get a higher megapixel count, brighter viewfinder, a digital display on top (which I think IS very useful) and autofocus with non AF-S lenses. I can see the display on top would be good if you were using a tripod, when I use one, well I have only just started to use a...
