    Kordon Breathable Bags

Hi there, My cherries simply won't stop breeding and whilst I keep taking them back to the LFS and getting dry food in return I now have so much dry food that I don't actually need any, so I was thinking about starting to sell some as it may be a more constant way of reducing my herd (there are...

I think I've decided to start of with 4 and then get that settled and decide if I want to add in the right side at a later date. Thanks

    Which arrangement?

Thanks guys. I really hope I can get it looking along the lines of the influence, its such a beautiful tank

    Which arrangement?

Its at 30 x 15 x 12 Clearseal. i'm currently swinging more to 5 but then quite like the look of the 2 bushes that you get in 6

    Which arrangement?

hello all, I would like to try and create a moss only tank having been inspired by the following aquarium: So which of the following compositions of the wood do you think is best? (I don't want to put the substrate in until i've decided on the layout as there will be 2 layers of substrate) 1...

    Sand substrate

Heya, its been a very long time since I have been on here, but nothing has been happening to my tank due to lack of funds. However I have just purchased a Clearseal 30x15x12" tank this weekend and would like to create something like the tank below which I believe was done in a 24" tank; My...

    Need inspiration.....

Ok, no sand then. I want to make my life easy not harder and knowing me I'll change the layout plenty of times over the years! The reason I was thinking of using the powder though, hence ADA and not things like florabase is that I have pygmy cories and I don't want them digging in the...

    Need inspiration.....

Perfect, can't wait to get started with it, but going to take it slowly! Will keep you posted. Anyone think I should stick with the external? Oh and also if I have all the substrate planted up, do you think I could just put normal play sand on to of the aquacare instead of the ada powder...

    Need inspiration.....

Grrrr second attempt at writing this. Ok going to go back to a 24" tank after being bored of the restrictions with my arc tank. It will be placed on a breakfast counter in the kitchen. I'm going to keep things simple, so this is what I'm planning on so far: TNP+ and Easycarbo for fertilisers...

    My dwarf puffer haven

Sorry guys I haven't been on here for absolutely months! I used to feed them frozen and live food, mostly bloodworm, they sucked on them like a piece of spagetti, very funny to watch. Unfortunately I don't have them anymore. I was struggling with the upkeep of the aquarium so turned it into a...

    My dwarf puffer haven

Thanks guys. They get along great with the shrimp, don't bother them at all, although I had some colomesus asellus puffers which went on the rampage when I tried them with some ghost shrimp. I think the dwarfs are just too small, they'd rather pick at small snails or bloodworms.

    My dwarf puffer haven

Well, since I started planning this tank in January and it's my first planted tank and i've had all sorts up with it and constant re-scaping, I thought I should put up a picture of how it is looking at the moment, finally, after all the help that you guys have given me, thankyou so so much. It...

    Building a tank

So I have this alcove, which a normal tank just won't fit into properly, so have been thinking about getting one made, or doing it myself, kind of. Anyway, my question would be if I get the glass all cut for me and then I silicone it together, is that all that needs to be done, or do I need a...

    AMANO SHRIMPS and WORMER PLUS

Just to let you know that I spoke to a friend on another forum that has used the wormer plus with her puffs and the shrimp were unaffected.
  16. L

    AMANO SHRIMPS and WORMER PLUS

I never had shrimp in my tanks at the time of worming, so am not too sure, but it didn't affect the plants or the water chemistry at all. As for sexing them, the males get wrinkles behind their eyes. I'll try and take a picture to show you on mine. The brown stripe tends to appear on the most...

    Lusty Glaze (Inspired by nature)

Hi Planter, I just thought I'd let you know that with the little puffs, you have to keep feeding them snails to trim down their beaks otherwise if they get overgrown, they cannot eat and die. Luckily you don't have the colomesus asellus ones, which I had and you had to anaethetise them and...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Thankyou for that. I did a small one this evening to get rid of the crud that had settled and I replanted everything. I'll leave the vallis out until I get it all sorted then!!! I'll keep dosing excel until I can get another FE (no card at the moment, damn fraudsters!). It is already looking...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Okay, so I got a little carried away with cleaning the tank last night. I hacked back all the stem plants, ripped out all the carpeting plants so that I could clean each individual plant and I took out any rocks that didn't have plants attached to them. I also decided to do a little re scape...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Oh that makes it much more bearable. So if I do twice weekly changes and dose with excel, do I still need to keep the lights off for this whole period and what about the CO2? Also I'm guessing I keep going with the original fert programme? How many weeks to you reckon it'll take for the algae...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Okay, I'm thinking that with me going away on the weekends a lot and having the odd holiday, that it might make my battle easier if I convert this tank into a low tech one! What do you think? Dreaded algae - hair

Oh goooooooooooooooooooood, this is a never ending battle! When I replaced the CO2 bottle the other week, I obviously didn't do it well enough because the bottle is now empty. Dreaded algae - hair

yeah I'm getting very impatient with it. I think I might rip it all out and stick in a dark corner for a few weeks and see what happens, at least it won't be infecting my tank anymore and I can clear that up! Thankyou for that. I'll try it and see how it work cause it breaks my heart to have...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Hi there, So I followed the blackout procedure and while it has reduced about 50% of the algae, there is still some amongst the mosses. I'm not sure what to do now? I'm tempted to rip out the mosses that have the algae in and start again, it would certainly be less hassle!!!! What do you guys...

    Dreaded algae - hair

Hi I am still struggling with the hair algae. I am dosing 4caps of excel which is 20ml and i'm doing it everyday as well as the fert dosing and the CO2. The algae isn't getting worse, but it isn't getting better. I take out as much as I can every water change I do and there isn't any growth...
  32. L

    Dreaded algae - hair

thankyou for that. I think it'll be best to treat the whole tank with the excel, just to be sure, as I have a fair amount of moss in there. As for the yellowing and pinholes, it may well have been down to the low CO2. I'm going to do a trim of the all the bad looking leaves tonight and then...

    Dreaded algae - hair

oh that is great. I had to turn down my CO2 for a few weeks because my tester in the tank had a leak, so I could never tell how much was in there. that would be why. I have it back now to the lime green colour so that will be good and I'll treat the hair algae with excel as I have some of...

    Dreaded algae - hair

So it is completely my fault that I now have hair algae. I know it is due to a build up of excess nutrients and it happened whilst I was away on holiday and then when i came back, my pump to get water back into the tank broke, so i couldn't do the usual 50% water changes. So this is my fert...

    Itchy arm

if you want some long gloves that can be thrown away, go to a farm shop like Mole Valley or Scats and get the long gloves (up to your shoulders) that are used for calfing. A box of them isn't that spenny and they aren't latex, which I prefer. That could help

    Rescape after only 2 months

yeah that was what I was thinking with the riccia on the slope. Do you think it would slide less if I built the slope from rocks (have dones of lava rock not doing anything) and then covered it in eco complete? It might have to be a riccia slope, just so that it doesn't slip.

    George's 80cm - final shots

Looks brilliant. Just wanted to ask though, I remember reading on one of your blogs that you had placed the filter inlet (or was it outlet) over your CO2 diffuser. I'm guessing that this is to help spread it evenly around the tank, but I was just wondering if the CO2 would have an effect on...

    Help CO2 not working

HI there, it really isn't as scary as you think it will do. Firstly you will need a regulator (has the gauges on it), then a solenoid if you want your CO2 to be turned off automatically, a bubble counter, a check/stop valve and then a diffuser. The order you attach things are regulator to FE...

  80. L

    Help CO2 not working

well I just did that and I still can't find a leak. My only guess is that the bottle has emptied so I'm not picking up a leak, so when I get my new bottle in a couple of days I'll put the reg etc on that and try it again, hopefully that'll turn up something.
