Sorry I'm late :)
Lighting is the standard 5050 led that came with the tank. Quite dim but I don't need bright light's for this one.
Fish are likely going to be bororas merah if I find them
Is crepidomanes not Indian?
I *may* have a semi aquatic fern from borneo soon. Trying to persuade him at the moment but if it turns up I'm happy to let you have a small sprig :)
Way to cloudy for good photos but here is how it stands at the minute.
Plenty more to go in when I add some height with hardscape.
The java ferns are coming out and will be replaced with more buce and some rarer ferns.

Country of origin or other collector's.
I'm lucky to have made friends with someone who supplies me Buce at good rates :)

Upgraded to a 5 foot 4x80w T5HO unit today. Ridiculously overkill but it's now future proof :)
Could potentially be changing it for a 5x2x2 at some point. Similar volume but a better shape
Getting a bit 'meh' as I'm randomly chucking spare plants in.
Going to pull out some rocks later and cut down on the plant types to make it look a bit less chaotic

I have added plants but growth has been good :)
I cheated with the ferns and bought them already well established. I'll get a shot now they are out :)

Plant list will be updated when I have a spare minute.
Most of the java fern has been rehomed to make room for some other plants but I'm very happy with it in this image.
Started to get a bit ambitious with the lighting and upped it to 12 hours and 116 watts which has obviously created some...
Not much of a scape going on but I thought I'd share it anyway :)
50l cube,
9w led light
No ferts
No c02
Plants are java fern, java trident, mix of bucephalandras, nana pinto and a crypt 'flamingo' for now.

Plot twist.
Bought myself an ro unit so back to puffers again.
Found a glorious piece of wood at my local maidenhead. The rocks have been 'aquired' pre mossed.
Heres a fts as it stands at the minute.
It needs considerably more plants. There is a lot of space behind everything you can see for...
i never notice much growth when dsm'd but it deffinately attatches. Saying that fissidens seems to be the slowest thing i have ever experience underwater too :(
Due to the cost of using ro it will now be stocked with tanganyikans which means the lovely wood will be taking a holiday in the garage. Ill make sure I disapoint you all with pictures of anubias and java fern :)
Picked up this bargain tank for £200 including 4xt8 lighting, aps 2000 and eheim wet and dry thermo filter. Its 200x50x70cm.
Im thinking of going high tech with amazon puffers being the stocking choice.
The lighting will probably be swapped out for a diy led system of some kind as its currently...
Id be inclined to set up a population of cherries before hand too :)
In 3 months with a starting group of 20 there is no reason you wont end up with 2-300 easily if there is nothing to predate on them.
My advice would be to ditch the bettas. Who needs fish? The funny looks from him may offend your shrimps so youd be better off with a shrimp only room....
You are living one of my many dreams now :)
Now flooded :)
Managed to hold off flooding for about 6 weeks and am pleased i did :)
The only bits that floated off where more recent addittions so i drained again and attached each with a small blob of superglue.
Pictures up tomorrow :)
You would be supprised how dry you can have the leaves :)
Hairgrass can be grown in open air as long as they can access water, and i know hc can be grown in the same way so maybe h can too?
I would deffinately recomend sulawesi shrimps. Very different in behaviour to anything else i have kept.
The thing i loved about them when i had them was the challenge of them. Far more difficult than bee shrimp in my opinion although they will reward you eventually :)
That rock is slate i belive :)
Look in any garden center, this type is labeled as rustic slate.
Very nice use of it i might add.
Agree on the dry start method, drain as much water out as you can and it will be about right :)
With the spraybar higher up you will get a better circular flow.
When it is lower down more of the water will be pushed upwards when it hits the glass.
Thanks guys :)
I agree about the grain size, the substrate will be carpeted with fissidens and riccardia but will obviously still show against the glass :(
Not posted much in the way of my aquariums mainly due to lack of skill and camera.
This is my 12l cube currently growing using the dry start method.
Equipment is the standard LED lighting and built in filter that came with the tank.
I am using Colombo Florabase for substrate.
The rock is dragon...
Try overdosing a bit more.
I can guarantee it will not cause you any problems at this stage somit is worth a try. Are you dosing macro and micro?
If this is the problem your new leaves will not melt and you have found the root of your problem so surely worth it? :)
Also remove all the dead or...
Id be tempted to throw in some extra ferts.
Having extra ferts will not cause you any issues and you will soon find out if it is the cause of the melt.
My hydrocotyle didnt show any signs of melt when transfered to emergent growth but was always the first plant to show any problems. Once it...
Re: NeilW's 30cm nano - "Mono" [Planted 25/05/10]
Screw water, throw in some tree frogs :D
I love this tank, will almost be a shame to see it filled
Looks like an interesting plant.
Might be a nice one for riparium folks.
I can imagine it hanging above there tanks to make there displays even taller.
Add my to the shortlist for some babies
Could make for an interesting breeding project there paulo, no one has come out with the ''sakura'' version of these yet :)
This is my journal for my 60l nano (well, I see it as nano)
So the tank is a 60l cube made by rena.
I ripped out the black back box that housed a built in filter because it stole about a third of my volume.
The tank is scaped mainly with some fair sized crypts and several moss species.
No...
Re: Journal 2 day 2. Finaly, 4ft 238l tank
Looking good :)
You think that's bad......
Me my girlfriend and our best friend are planing on moving out in november of this year, and im stripping down my 600l with a view to set that up as a low tech iwagumi style scape..... Im dreading that...
Yeh it was over-rated if im honest....
I was banished to the upstairs of the house for a while and just felt a bit washed out so things went a bit pear shaped.
Ive been out with the legendary swine flu for a while and this tank has had a terrible stringy algae outbreak due to this.....
Im trying to bring it back without tinkering to much but i cant be hugely hopefull :(
Wow, it does look very prehistoric...
Im aprehensive of the result of the parrots feather.... In a submerged for it grows much like a very dense and fine cabomba sp.
Name: Luke Landsburgh (Mr. luke)
Tank Dimensions (Height/Width/Depth): 7cm X 25cm X 5cm
Aquascape Name: The Buds of Spring
Hardscape/Materials used: Pebbles and sand.
Plants: Various uk native mosses and a uk native stem plant (not ure on the species)
Fertilisation: Cat litter base layer...
Its 25l...
Im not aware of any uk native freshwater shrimps....
Im not sure if fish are an option due to the small size... Could try some snails though :)
Well i have a spare tank, which i cant set up due to space (grr) so ive decided that im going to do an emersed setup, and then come spring time its going in the garden and housing some White cloud mountain minnows and cherry shrimps.....
Strange aproach to it but hopefully it will work out well...
Re: Let the journal begin!
Love the hardscape :)
Just a though .....
How about using the dry start method and leaving it going like that while your on holiday? Youll have a higher plant mass from the start that way so less algae :)
i would think you could have 3 dp's filling permitting.
I would never have 2 as one will almost always bear the brunt of the other one.
1 or 3+ is the way to go (although 3 is the max i would recomend)
It looks like a normal tank form the front :)
Its not dark at all in the tank, its just very sunny today, right next to a window and i used the flash to capture it in its setting rather than the tank itself, as it looks shamefull at the minute
I dont have a fancy name yet, but its in the works
Here it is
Its an 'eheim scubacity'
120l aprox.
External filter and heater
Arcadia ot luminaire (4x24w t5)
Inhabitants at the minute: 5 'lipstick barbs'
Will contain breeding colony of macrobrachium assamensis, 5 lipstick barbs (unless...
Id leave cardinals as they need VERY stable water parameters and a specific setup. They also require water twarmer than 25'c and it has to be 100% constant.
my tip for java moss is to keep it trimmed to 1cm growths for a few weeks/months until its nicely filled out to let it anchor really well and then let it grow, will be the bushiest thing youv ever seen :p
i sent a mix of java, willow and weeping in one bag and pellia in another.
some plants so suffer a bit during posting but they should spring back from it ;)
nice effort :)
id consider getting some more rocks though to play with, preferably the same colour.
combination of black and white looks a bit messy imo.
and argggh! planting hc is the single most annoying thing anyone will ever do :p
Optimal breeding temp for most shrimps is 22-25/6, metabolism speeds up at these temperatures, shrimps live shorter lives but grow and breed faster. growing faster also means that they can have there own babies earlier.
If you want to keep your high grading in the tank i would remove the low...
Just spread the hm out really thinly (as in, induvidual stems across the entire foreground.
Also, if anyone wants some free macros, you can collect them from my house if you like, or collection form M/a crowland is also possible :p (not a joke) i live near lincoln in lincolnshire
Well since i recived a fair few plants recently and am thinking of a rescape when money permits, i thought id start a journal on my 54l low light tank.
here is haw it looks now
Tank dimensions are 18x16(tall)x12 which is a really anoying shape for scaping imo
The big 'red rubin' in...
