Buce will grow in ambient room light so no need to go too high on the light :)

i never notice much growth when dsm'd but it deffinately attatches. Saying that fissidens seems to be the slowest thing i have ever experience underwater too :(

Due to the cost of using ro it will now be stocked with tanganyikans which means the lovely wood will be taking a holiday in the garage. Ill make sure I disapoint you all with pictures of anubias and java fern :)

No has proven that they have bred micro crabs. People have said they have but have not shown any evidenct. Ive bred sharks btw.

Micro crabs are yet to be bred in captivity so good luck :D

Id be inclined to set up a population of cherries before hand too :) In 3 months with a starting group of 20 there is no reason you wont end up with 2-300 easily if there is nothing to predate on them.

The new inhabitants :) only have a pair as thats all they had. Also realises the tank is 8l not 12 and only 5l after displacement...

My advice would be to ditch the bettas. Who needs fish? The funny looks from him may offend your shrimps so youd be better off with a shrimp only room.... You are living one of my many dreams now :)

Optiwhite shrimp room, thats just showing off :) Are you concerned about evaporation affecting the ceiling in there?

Now flooded :) Managed to hold off flooding for about 6 weeks and am pleased i did :) The only bits that floated off where more recent addittions so i drained again and attached each with a small blob of superglue. Pictures up tomorrow :)

You could plant heavier on one side than the other to offset the fact the sand is central :)

You would be supprised how dry you can have the leaves :) Hairgrass can be grown in open air as long as they can access water, and i know hc can be grown in the same way so maybe h can too?

I would deffinately recomend sulawesi shrimps. Very different in behaviour to anything else i have kept. The thing i loved about them when i had them was the challenge of them. Far more difficult than bee shrimp in my opinion although they will reward you eventually :)

That rock is slate i belive :) Look in any garden center, this type is labeled as rustic slate. Very nice use of it i might add. Agree on the dry start method, drain as much water out as you can and it will be about right :)

Your weeping moss looks like fissidens to me. Id advise not increasing the light until you have a lot more plant mass.

True colour will be anything from red to blue depending on the day of the week :)

With the spraybar higher up you will get a better circular flow. When it is lower down more of the water will be pushed upwards when it hits the glass.

Cant understand why your loosing shrimps :( They are suposedly as easy to keep as cherry shrimps!

Yeh it was over-rated if im honest.... I was banished to the upstairs of the house for a while and just felt a bit washed out so things went a bit pear shaped.

Ive been out with the legendary swine flu for a while and this tank has had a terrible stringy algae outbreak due to this..... Im trying to bring it back without tinkering to much but i cant be hugely hopefull :(

People usually just float it so it grows out of the water and sell those parts so yes ;)

Wow, it does look very prehistoric... Im aprehensive of the result of the parrots feather.... In a submerged for it grows much like a very dense and fine cabomba sp.

Well i have a spare tank, which i cant set up due to space (grr) so ive decided that im going to do an emersed setup, and then come spring time its going in the garden and housing some White cloud mountain minnows and cherry shrimps..... Strange aproach to it but hopefully it will work out well...

i would think you could have 3 dp's filling permitting. I would never have 2 as one will almost always bear the brunt of the other one. 1 or 3+ is the way to go (although 3 is the max i would recomend)

Id leave cardinals as they need VERY stable water parameters and a specific setup. They also require water twarmer than 25'c and it has to be 100% constant.

Id give the tank time to fill before you make a final decision to remove the java ferns, if you do so now you may worsen the problem :(

my tip for java moss is to keep it trimmed to 1cm growths for a few weeks/months until its nicely filled out to let it anchor really well and then let it grow, will be the bushiest thing youv ever seen :p

Sorry there wasnt much of it, it was just the trimmings of what i hadd so i thought id throw them in :)

i sent a mix of java, willow and weeping in one bag and pellia in another. some plants so suffer a bit during posting but they should spring back from it ;)

Optimal breeding temp for most shrimps is 22-25/6, metabolism speeds up at these temperatures, shrimps live shorter lives but grow and breed faster. growing faster also means that they can have there own babies earlier. If you want to keep your high grading in the tank i would remove the low...
