I am trying to find an online supplier for Echinodorus Barthii v ( Red Melon Sword) anybody know of any shop etc that keeps this in stock ?
I have tried the sponsors on this forum.
Yes that what I thought looking at it now but dont know what to do as I think I need more something but what I do not know.
If this was your sump how would you set it up chamber by chamber ?
I dont think I am getting the best from my sump and the way I have it set up so looking to change it around to get the max out of it.
This is for a freshwater tank. and the sump is 48"x15"18"
This is what I have come up with for my future set up of my sump.
Hoping someone out there can...
The coral is in bags in the sump so very easy to remove.
Today I did some heavy pruning and got rid of every leaf that was not 100% the only ones I left was the anubis as that has a little algae/diatoms on the edges of the leaves is there any way to get rid of this with out cutting away the...
I have looked into purigen and I worked it out I would need 2ltr of the stuff something for the shopping list at the end of the month.
The cloudiness is there all the time no difference at all when I dose
I do have 2kg of crushed coral in my tank though as I had a low KH could this be the...
I forgot to ask if I did get some liquid carbon at what do I dose at as I am using injection too so would I go with 1ml per 50ltr per day every day as per the instructions or would it be 1ml every 100ltrs every day or like 1ml per 50ltrs every 3 days ? I ask as with the tank my size I would go...
I was wondering if there was anybody that lives close to me as I like to meet up with fellow fish keepers etc and someone to help me that knows the ins and outs of a planted tank to come and give me some pointers for a rescape.
The town is live in is rainy Tunbridge Wells.
Mine is set up in such a way that I have todo nothing at all around 100ltrs gets changed everyday.
I have a Ballcock in my sump (4th chamber) which is fed via ro hose from a filter under my sink.
I then have a power head in the sump (1st Chamber) which is reduced down to ro hose which runs all...
Nor do I
I have tried everything from a full floss filter to 3 different micron filter socks on the sump 90% water change vacuum 2 x per week which is not easy on the tank
I am at a loss now on what to try next
I have today I have only 2 tubes running and on my tank it looks so dim now and the co2 I have turned up on the controller for now as the pipe is cut so I have ordered up some more co2 pipe and then I will remove the controller and have the co2 on a timer for 2 hours b 4 lights on.
Ok I see what you mean now
My tank has become such a headache over the last few months that I have thought about giving it up and just changing it to a cichlid tank as I still can not get clear water I have so many suspended particles that it makes the water look cloudy I have tried everything...
The co2 is on the filter and not the sump this is how is runs
25mm pipe from tank to bucket filter then outlet from bucket filter to co2 reactor then from reactor to tank via a full length spray bar.
Right where do I start
The lights are 4x54w which are paired so yes I can turn off 2 the lights are on for 8 hours per day from 12-8pm which would be the best way to do this just turn 2 lights off all the time or have 2 come on for 2 hours then the other 2 for 4 hours then back to just 2 for...
What do I need to do? As I have 2 full length spray bars 1 pointing down to the middle of the tank and the other pointing straight down the front of the glass one of them is pumping out around 5000lrt an hour and the other around 2500lrt per hour.
Do i need to increase my co2 ?
more flow ?
Hi yes Co2 injection though a reactor with twin full length spray bars one on back one on front
Filters is 1 x sump with a OR 6500 return pump 1 x Ehime Bucket filter modded to take a 3400ltr pump
I am trying to get more light to the bottom of my tank.
My tank is 72"x24"x30" and at present I am running 4 x 54w T5's with reflectors.
The lights are 4-5" above the water level which means from light to top of substrate is about 32"
What are my options for getting more light to the bottom...
I will get some when I put in my order for ei salts as I find paying £4.20 p&p for a item which weights 50g not cost effective so will wait for the time being as I order dry salts every 6 weeks oh the joys of running nearly a 1000ltr planted tank.
I got it wrong it a drinking water filter it has
Stage One
Synthetic membrane spun-polypropylene filters remove suspended solids such as dirt and rust.
Stage Two
Carbon of high quality with special silver impregnation dramatically reduces chlorine and dissolved organic...
Well today I got my auto water change working and I must say I am even impressed.
I have not fixed it yet as wanted to get it right b4 drilling holes though wall etc.
The hardest part was getting the r/o hose to fit a power head but I the end I made my own fitting out of odds and sods I had...
Thanks for the suggestions
Ceratopteris thalictricoides would not last in my tank but lovely looking plant
Echinodorus uruguayensis I already have a couple of these in my tank
I have a nice area in my tank which is about 2ft by 1ft which is looking a little empty.
I am looking for a bushy plant to fill this spot and grow to about 18-24" high and not to fragile.
I do not want Swords or vallisneria
The spec of my tank is
850ltr plus sump
4x 54w t5 with reflectors...
I go by this site as I buy there products and they are highly recommended
http://blog.fluidsensoronline.com/calcu ... ive-index/
and the figures they give me are are the ones I have been using.
I was told that the amount of salts I use would not mix in 1ltr of water.
What I am trying to do is auto dosing as I forget some days and i dont have that much room to start putting big containers in my cupboard
The problem I have is I use to much dry salts to go liquid
Mon-Wed-Fri 2 tsb---Potassium Nitrate (KNO3)
3/4 tsb---Monopotassium Phosphate (KH2PO4)
6 tsp---Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4)
Tue-Thur 3/4 tsp---TNC...
I am not very good at remembering to dose my EI salts every day and was looking for a auto dose for dry salts.
I came across this
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/tech ... HEA7A#more
or this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fish-Mate-207-F ... 640&sr=8-5
I am thinking this could work
I am after a fast growing moss (not Java) or plant that will creep
This is what I want it for I have a large bit of hollow wood in my tank which is placed vertical I would like to place a bit of moss or a plant at the bottom of the wood and it would creep up the side of the wood.
yes is cheaper to freeze but very quick to melt and being a 30" deep tank etc I am worried that some might come loose b 4 I get them in the substrate etc.
Also gel caps would cost me £2 for 100 of them which would keep me going for years.
All I need to know is what to fill them with
I have also found this one (Osmocote Pro) this is the break down of what is in it.
16% Nitrogen Total (N)
6.5% Nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N)
8.5% Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4-N)
1.0% Urea nitrogen (Ur-N)
11% Phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5)
8.3% Water soluble
10% Potassium oxide (K2O)...
Which brand is the best one to get though as there is so many out there.
Also was just going to buy the little balls and do it it myself with gel caps as it works out cheaper.
This is the one I am looking at but not knowing if its safe or not
Can someone let me know if it is safe etc ...
My fresh water is coming straight from the mains via a 4 stage filter then to this (Bubble magus aquarium RO reverse osmosis water auto refill shut float valve sump) so no pump.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271096127905? ... 1497.l2649
outlet is just going to be a powerhead which is going to feed...
It is time for me to to redose my root tablets and have been looking at Osmocote on other sites about making them myself with gel Capsules.
Has anybody got experiencing with osmocote ?
If so did it have any bad effects ?
Which band did you use ?
How much osmoncote do you recommend per...
All bits now ordered for auto drain 10m of ro hose which is going to go outside to drain pipe which I will locate higher than the sump so I do not get syphon effect when pump stops pumping.
I have also ordered a flow adjustable pump so I can get the drain to the same speed as the refill.
I...
Re: Whitespot advice for large tank with lots of scaleless f
One thing I could not find out was how long before I do a w/c on the tank once I have dosed.
This is how I am doing it
50% WC then dose day 1 (Wed)
Dose day 2 (Thur)
Dose day 3 (Fri)
So how many days do I have to leave it after the...
ok thats sounds a bit better that way but the pump would have to pump out at the same speed as the refiling
The next question is though doing a little water change everyday will it have an effect on my EI dosing ?
I have come home tonight to find my 4 western rainbow with white spots on them so to me its the dreaded whitespot.
Due to the time I got home nowhere is open to get any meds from.
I am in the process of raising the temp to 28c and looking to get some meds tomorrow the problem I have is that I...
Ok I might be over thinking but I change around 400ltr a week
Now if I could get this right that would work out around 58ltr per day or 2.4ltr per hour now if I could control the outlet to 2.4ltr per hour could I just leave the system running 24/7 ? As in 2.4ltr of new water going in an hour...
I did have a led strip but the thing went faulty after a month.
Could I stager the t5's coming on or would that not give the effect ?
or get 2 smaller t5's like 2ft ones and use them for sunrise sunset as in 2 x 2ft t5's on then 2x 4ft t5's and then the other 2 x 4ft t5's and reverse for sunset ?
As I am home all day I would like to see my fish for longer at the moment the lights come on at 11am off at 7pm would like to come on at 12pm off at 10pm.
I also have quite a few algae eating fish and would like to give them a little of the real thing to munch on
Ok thats sounds like a great plan
I am thinking of getting some white RO hose and running it straight to the drain outside (perm fix) as when I do my weekly W/C I am looking at just over 400ltr.
So based on your 5 gallon per 25mins I would need to have mine running for about 8hrs This sound...
Co2 is just getting fed into the return pump from the sump but this is going to change to a reactor very soon as the micro bubbles are now getting to me.
I might increase my lighting period from 8hr to 9hr and so on as I have no algae what soever.
This is how the tank now looks and it now has 2 x full length spray bars.
In the next few weeks I am putting some Mazy wood in long lengths to try and give it a different look and not so open at the top.
All my bits for a mains feed auto topup have turned up today so ready to install.
But what I want to find out is can I just tap into my drinking water filter will that be good enough ?
This is the filter I have for my drinking water.

I am going to make a full length spray bar for my 6ft tank but unsure on how many holes I need and size to get a near even flow out of the holes.
The pipe is 15mm internal dia that I am going to use for the spray bar.
The pump supplying the spray bar is rated at 3400l/ph with a 16mm hose...
Hi have a ehime 1262 pump which I am going to use external when I set it up the other day it had a slight leak from the motor cover and the screw in outlet/hose attachment.
I have purchased some new seals for both parts which turned up today I fitted them and still the pump leaks i have...
I am looking in to the possibility of changing my lighting to LED but am unsure if it will do the job as my tank is 32" deep and the lights would be 4" above the water line so looking at 34-36" to the bottom of the tank.
Is there any LED lights that would do this depth and give good lighting at...
well picked up a 100 gpd ro unit as starting marine tank so will use that for both.
As for getting co2 into the bucket filter what is the best way to get it into the bucket filter on the inlet side ?
ah just thought of something else I changed
I put a timer on the co2 to go off over night.
Maybe that being such a large tank I am not getting the right co2 build up when the lights are on and the co2 indicator is not reacting quick enough to let me know they is not enough in there.
Could...
Yep not something I would want to do or even try doing is drill a glass tank as if it cracked i would not have a way to replace it quick enough on a up and running tank.
But if i was going to get someone in to do it for me what size hole would need to be drilled?
Over the last week or so my plants are getting holes in them and some of them are going brown at the ends.
I am dosing EI and CO2 via injection
CO2 is always in the bright green.
Dosing at a rate of
SUN,TUE,THUR
2 tsp Potassium Nitrate (KNO3)
¾ tsp Monopotassium Phosphate (KH2PO4)
5 ½ tsp...
I found out what the problem was it was missing a washer from the shaft
So for now I have used a washer I had in my shed a stainless steel one but have ordered a complete set from a
aqua medic stockiest.
Now I have that lovely hum back that I am use too.
How do you stop vibration ?
Today I have changed my sump pump over to a ocean runner 6500 and its making a low grinding noise.
I have check it over and made sure there was noting at all in the chamber etc it is very clean not even a grain of sand in there.
I have check with a diagram that the prop has all the washers in...
Thanks looks good :)
Just now need to find all the parts and make one.
I did pick a 10" filter housing, self cutting ro tap thing and some pipe for £2 today at a car boot sale
What is the best filter to drop in the filter housing for auto top up ?
Today I got my full length spary bar made up
I ended up making 2 as the 1st one I put to many holes and too big as I put a 4mm hole every inch
The 2nd one which I am now using has a 3mm hole every 3 inches.
I have no clue though if this is right or wrong as I might be putting back...
Nice setup
I have ordered some pipe today to make up the full length spray bar from the sump return.
I have today picked up a nice ehime 2250 bucket filter for a good price which I intend to change the pump on it to a 1262.
The reason for this is I want to get rid of the wave makers in my...
My down pipe is based on the durso design so no noise at all.
The outlet of the down pipe is under the water level in the sump so no splashing I did this to retain as much co2 in the water.
Which seems to work as a 2kg bottle lasts between 70-80 days on my tank
What I might do is get a Ocean...
This is an old pic but the up and down pipe are still as is.
The pipe size are
1.5" down but reduces to 1" near sump as there was skimmer t piece in place which I have blanked off
The up pipe is 1/2"
Thanks for the links for the top up bits :-)
As for the pump I would lose lots of the lph due to the head as from my sump to the top of my tank is 2m
How much lph would I lose buy doing a DIY on my own pump ?
Sounds like a plant to me as my kitchen is getting ripped out in the next few weeks so I could run the pipe work behind the units.
Call me thick but how do I convert my current pump is there a how to ?
And when you say straight into the pump just put the tube under the inlet of the pump ?
I need the extra filter as the turn over at the moment is 3 times as this was an x marine tank so most of the filtration was done by the live rock.
The down pipe is not big enough to increase the flow though the sump.
Tank is miles away from mains water but did think of that.
How would I go...
I thought it was about time to post up some pics of my 850ltr tank its still a work in progress and ironing out the problems one at a time and needing more plants.
ur
This is the specs of the tank

Eheim Return Pump 3400ltr
2kg JBL co2 setup controlled by a sera co2...
I am torn between two pumps I have and might change to the Eheime
At the moment I am using the ocean runner 3500 as my return pump but at a 5.5ft head to my tank I think I am losing quite a bit of turn over.
I have in my shed 2 x Eheim Hobby 1262 which has a high wattage use and the output...
I do just had mine done at this place and top people.
I had 1 x2kg FE done and 1 x 2kg JBL bottle too.
Turn around was 24hr as they freeze the bottles before filling.

My LFS has just gotten a shipment of these in and they are nice an big.
Some of them look evil due to the size of the pincers lol
I know nothing about these shrimp in relation to going in a community tank with lots of bottom dwellers
The reason I ask as my tank is run by a sump all the other...
Yep alot of moss I worked it out to be around 1.5kg but I might do it in riccia I know it will be hard work but if I find mesh that is small enough it might not be so bad.
I am looking to do a large moss wall on my tank but finding it hard to find the sizes I need
my tank is 72" long with water depth of 26"
anybody know where I can buy mesh that will not cost a fortune that would do the job ?
I have decided to run co2 24/7 and let the co2/ph controller dose as required.
I am dropping the ph by 0.1 every 24hrs to give the fish a chance to adjust
Ph is now down to 7.15 and all fish look great no ill affects no gasping and the fish seem brighter I reckon my ph will be 6.80 when I hit...
Thanks will do and thanks for the heads up on introducing more lighting to the plants etc.
I have just looked on the QVS site as I have one of there outlets near me and they have a 6500k listed for £5 so I think I will go get that.
Ok I think I will go with 2 more light but this time I will go with growlux to give it more of a natural look as at the moment it looks to clinical if you get what I mean.
or is there another combination I can go with with 2x 14k t5 and 2 something else ?
I am have reflectors and have 14k T5's from iquatics as that's what they recommended to me due to the depth.
I have injected co2 and dosing EI salts
The tank it self is filtered by a 4ft sump with a ocean runner 3500 return pump and a magnum 350 canister filter and to aid flow I am using 2x...
Yes I would like it a little bit bright too but that is more down to me I want to do what is best for the plants and fish and being the size of tank it is turn it is to more of a focal point than the TV if you get my drift.
The tank is a planted tank or should I say the start of
Has lots of crypts, java moss, Java fern, Amazon swords, and a few others in at the moment and soon going to be putting in xmas moss etc.
My tank is 6ft long by 2ft wide by 30" deep at the moment I am running 2 x 54w T5's with reflectors.
I am thinking I might need to add more light I am thinking of another 2 54w lamps that would give me a total of 216w of lighting for this tank.
I know about wpg but that was based on the T8...
I am looking to do a carpet in my 6x2x3 tank and I think I will need something that is hardy or very fast growing.
I have lots of bottom feeders corys, whiptails and plecs (3 bristle nose, 1 clown & 2 Royal Plecs)
So far none of my plants I have already have been eaten.
any suggestions or is...
